Corporations may soon have the "religious liberty" to impose their spiritual beliefs on us. HOBBY LOBBY Hobby Lobby: Buy your own birth control, you gross body-havers! Might not affect you - until you realize NETFLIX is an Orthodox Jew. Computer: No streaming on Sabbath. Man: Oppression. SPAGHETTIOs? Dude's a total Muslim fanatic just waiting for his moment. Spaghettio: Uh-oh! Sharia law! But who knows? Maybe a corporation will go all "Pope Francis" on us. Ronald McDonald: HEY KIDS! Unfettered capitalism is tyranny! Old Man: HAVE A SEAT, RONALD.

That’s why we have the freedom to spend or work wherever we choose.I don’t want to pay for somebody’s toys or prophylactics. These aren’t medically necessary and can easily be purchased by the user like the rest of had to. Many clinics give them for free.Or you can get a job at Planned(non)Parenthood and knock yourself out.

You never hear these same groups complaining about insurance covering Viagra.

You never hear these groups demanding insurance cover Viagra either. I am surprised that they don’t call progressives’ bluff about it though.

Until I was in my 20s, it was the LAW in Virginia that stores selling anything other than gas or food be closed. When I was a child in Mississippi, there were still signs indicating where the colored people could use a restroom or drink from a water fountain for years after civil rights laws were passed. No one had to pay attention to the signs, but those who didn’t got glares.I have conflict with this situation. I do not believe a person should have to have permission from an employer on how to deal with health care matters, but… I do believe that if a florist or baker doesn’t want to provide services for a gay marriage, they are within their religious and first amendment rights to do so. Health care is a necessity and the right to privacy is the wall between what a corporation can allow or disallow. Having flowers or food provided is not a necessity for a wedding to take place and in most places, there are competing florists and bakers who can and will provide services.Because of money issues, my own wedding reception was a pot luck meal where everyone brought something and the cake was baked by a friend. It was great and we’ve been married over 30 years. There are many practices done in the name of religion, even Christianity, that would not be appreciated by a great majority of Americans were it to be made law. The book of numbers and Leviticus has great examples of this.ConGov is right though. Just as the Rosa Parks’s actions brought about the bus boycotts that made business owners in her city change the rules, we have the ability and right to vote with our wallets. If you support Hobby Lobby’s decision, buy from them on line and give them your business. If you do not support it, go to another hobby store or buy online. Many companies and small businesses sell through Amazon, Ebay, and others and it’s getting easier and easier every year.My biggest concern is that if Hobby Lobby wins this case, people may find themselves unable to attain services for other reasons… being gay, being a non Christian, or even being a member of a disliked political party. Once you can use your religious views as a motive, and depending on your religion, you can cause people a lot of trouble. Especially if your concept of God is not a loving one.Respectfully,C.

Forks over Knives supports your statement about vegetarianism being a good way to replace Viagra. However, personal experience has given me reason to believe you are wrong about the existence of a Creator. I could be wrong, so I don’t force my beliefs on others. If you can’t prove in non existence, don’t be insulting to those of us who believe in God. It does not help the conversation and just hardens hearts. But then, the heart is just a muscle, and not a source of love or compassion, right?Thoughtfully,C.

If I were working for, say, Howard University or the Jewish Defense League, and they state in their personnel policy that they would match contributions from employees to non-profit organizations, what would be the conversation if I wished to contribute to, say, the KKK or the Aryan Nation? One person’s moral aversion being another person’s cause celebre does not invalidate the moral aversion. As to birth control pills having other medical uses, those would be covered just as morphine would be covered when medically prescribed and obviously not if the employee were purchasing it on the street recreationally (and no, I’m not saying pregnancy prevention is recreational; I’m saying in most cases it’s not medical). If it is the employer’s obligation to help us not have children is it then also their obligation to help us once we do? Where does provisioning leave off and personal responsibility take up?
As to the second panel above, it sickens me that Netflix not streaming, at any time, is labeled “oppression.” It cheapens those who live under true oppression and makes of us at best a nation of whining, demanding, dependent infants. At worst it makes of us a nation of whining, demanding, dependent bullies who kick the shins and punch the nose of anyone who doesn’t give us what we think is our “right.”

Atheists love to push their ‘non-religion’ on everyone else. But put up some lights and they are paying lawyers because they are angry, angry, angry at others practicing what they believe.Really? Someone told you you can’t put up lights on your house? Now, if you’re talking about public buildings, I don’t care as long as my tax money isn’t paying for it & other groups can put up similar displays. Most public buildings have taken down Christmas displays because officials were unwilling to give equal space to others.

Get rid of those SCAMpaign contributions and maybe we could get out of this plutocratic nightmare America has become for a majority of it’s people.

I understand your premise. However, I’m not sure you can say a proposition that is not verifiable by facts is ‘meaningless’. People used to believe the world was flat. But all along it was round. Did it’s roundness only have meaning once someone figured out the math to prove it was round?

Hmm. I’ll have to chew on that. Thanks for the breakdown by the way. My initial reaction is that ithe argument is a self fulfilling one, but that is an admittedly knee jerk reaction on my part. I will have to consider. Thanks again.

AS, I’m not sure if you’ll get this. I appreciate your response but don’t understand the “hired hand.” Do you mean a “plant” in the hiring organization? If by “hired hand” you mean hourly employees, they do make charitable contributions which are eligible for employer matches. I was meaning to bring up current hot buttons on which most of us agree to point out similarities I perceive in the situations.

Women have a choice - Have sex or don’t. An unborn baby has none. We all have a choice to work wherever we can qualify to work. We know going into a job what the company policy is. That’s what orientation is all about and that is also when we can make a choice. If I want to have extra cancer coverage, I have to pay for it myself. I don’t see why birth control pills can’t be paid for out of pocket by the user. Why should insurance companies be involved unless a woman would suffer grave illness if she were to get pregnant. People who say birth control and abortion is necessary for cases of rape or incest, need to consider that the majority of people having abortions are doing it for convenience, not because they were raped or a victim of incest.
