    I wonder how many potential pilots washed out because of air sickness?… especially in WWI (or… Global War Part One)… you never see that in the movies.

    I seem to remember reading that while the Sopwith Camel had no problems swooping to the right, swooping to the left was a different matter. The engines in those planes was a “rotary” engine, in that the crankshaft was bolted solid to the airframe while the engine block was bolted to the propeller, and the whole engine block turned as the engine was running. This created a gyroscopic effect that made the plane able to make very sharp right turns but it had difficulty turning left…
