I had not thought Wal-mart could lower themselves more, but that news story just staggered me. Because they know their own employees don’t make enough to eat, they collected donations FROM OTHER EMPLOYEES to help.Staggering. There’s some question is to whether in fact Wal-Mart employees are the largest single bloc on the food stamp list, but even so, it is known that Wal-Mart claims an average income of around $25K — but includes management! So clearly they know better…

All you lefties love to bash Walmart, but of course you ignore the fact that they employ over 2 MILLION Americans and every one of them makes more than minimum wage. When they opened one in my town, over 2000 unemployed people lined up on the first day of interviews. No other company was hiring and they were paying 2-3 dollars an hour above min wage for entry level positions. Hundreds were hired and now are able to get off welfare and have the self-respect that going to work each day brings.I won’t even go into the fact that Walmart also enables 10’s of millions of Americans to provide their families with household goods they can actually afford.Come on Bors, don’t be lazy, you can do better.

High streets populated with thriving independent businesses boost the prices of nearby homes, a new study has concluded

According to the American Express High Streets Ahead study houses near town centres full of prospering small traders have climbed by an average of £40,000 over the last decade.

The report goes on to suggest that homeowners living close to a flourishing local high street could see the value of their property outperform similar homes elsewhere by as much as £70,000 over the next 10 years.

It found that consumers living in areas with a higher proportion of small, independent businesses spent an average 21% of their annual retail budget shopping locally, compared with those living near fewer independent traders, who spent 6% locally.

American Express UK managing director Colin Walsh said: “This report identifies what we’re calling the ‘shop small effect’, which is the reciprocal benefit consumers can enjoy simply by supporting their local independent traders.”

Solution’s simple enough; don’t shop at Walmart (I don’t). Don’t shop anywhere on Thanksgiving Day (if no one’s there, even storeowners are smart enough to realize that they should be closed). And don’t forget, the Friday after Thanksgiving is “Buy Nothing Day”: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buy_Nothing_Day
