Congressman: We don't need to confirm Obama's judicial nominees, because the court already has too many people for the amount of work they do. Man: And how many of you are there in Congress?
Okay, trolls, take a look at the cartoon for a change. No one stalled on Obama’s nominees — who are extremely well qualified — except the GOP. Their plan is simple: if you don’t allow him to put in lifetime judge appointments, then maybe Republicans will be able to put some in. At the moment our justice system is overweighted with Republicans, and they hope to keep it that way. This is, at the very least, a travesty of democracy and certainly a violation of their oaths to follow the Constitution.
I’d take the position more seriously if the Republicans offered a bill to officially shrink the DC circuit court to 6 justices. Otherwise it looks like they’re just trying to keep the seats open until they have someone in position to fill them.
Simple fact: the “inferior courts” under the SCOTUS don’t have the staffing to keep up with the load, and the Republicans don’t want any liberals, OR CENTRISTS, appointed to those district and appeals courts.
Just a note: those appointments state “while on good behavior”, not “for life”, and a good many justices should have been impeached a long time ago, as well as those who should have been removed from the lower courts.
For those who think incorrectly that it’s somehow payback time for Democrats’ bad behavior, try reading this:“Overall, [Obama’s] judicial nominees wait an average of 116 days on the Senate floor for a vote—three times longer than Bush’s average judicial nominee wait time. When the 112th Congress ended in December, the Senate had approved 175 of Obama’s judges. Trusted, the correct term is reactionaries. They have no consistent ideology to speak of. They are angry and frustrated. Policy is an elitist concept to them. They’re not even good trolls, they just spew Bill Buckley and Barry Goldwater are rolling in their graves. There’s a reason you don’t hear much from George Will these days. He’s worried about guilt by association.
