Another major contributor to malnutrition in the U.S., along with corn syrup, but as long as it makes people on limited budgets buy more garbage the corporate controlled “food” industry shove across the shelves, it’s gotta’ be wrong to control or regulate.

“^ And besides this is way more important than any of the nations real problems , right!”Such as the rising cost of health care? The increasing prevalence of food related chronic health issues such as heart disease and diabetes?

“But that’s NOT what the lobbyists are paid to lobby for: it’s to ban the competing products and keep their own products on the shelves with official government assurances that they’re really good for us.”

WA State has broken the GMO barrier, at least.

That will let people avoid food which has been drenched in tons of RoundUp, which is even worse than the Glyphosate it’s based on. The surfactants in RoundUP insure that more of the product is taken more deeply into the plants.

The food ignorance of the American public knows no bounds. Someone once asked me, quite seriously, ‘what is in milk’?

The answer to that, of course, is BGH, added chemicals (vitamins), pus and various other contaminants. My preference for dairy products runs more to grass fed raw organic, because raw milk regs require the milk to be CLEAN, but the government is happy for us to eat industrially modified dairy products.

Hey, industry wants it. Can’t interfere with commerce …

“We should have control over our own Bodies, if we want to eat Trans Fats, we should be allowed to eat Trans Fats wit the same reason as this; If a Woman wants an Abortion, she should be allowed to have ab Abortion.”

    Yep. Well said.

The difference is that a woman knows she is pregnant, and knows her situation.

When we buy food, we know nothing about it, except the manufacturer’s marketing and the fact that the government hasn’t blocked its sale.

All we ask is full disclosure labeling. Trans fats have been labeled for some time now, I decline to use them. Other food issues are less clear; we can’t count on the government to protect us from additives and contaminants, and as a result I haven’t (knowingly) used corn, canola, beet sugar, or any other food products which have been modified to survive exposure to toxic chemicals. We have not been ‘modified’ to survive exposure to these chemicals, however, and mounting evidence suggests that glyphosate is contributing heavily to all our various chronic health conditions. Soy I avoid because even organic raw soy is not fit for human or animal consumption.

Sure, you eat what works for you, I eat what works for me – but that does assume we have the means to identify the food we want to avoid.

All we ask for is comprehensive, honest labeling. If industrial food is so great, why don’t they want to brag about it?

After 9/11, my local newspaper printed a picture of a Pakistani burning an American flag. As it happened, the picture was taken right after the flag had ignited his shirt. My first thought, of course: he deserves it.

My second thought: if he’d bought that shirt in the US, it wouldn’t have caught fire.

So, would some of our posters prefer they be allowed to buy whatever they wanted to wear, even if it’s flammable? It’s your right, of course, but do you really want to exercise your God-given right to be stupid?

So it is with Trans fats. Why would you punish your body, just because you can?

And what gives you the right to choose to increase your risk of heart disease, diabetes, and stroke, so that my health insurance premium pays for YOUR “choice” to ruin your health?

Remember, your right to throw your fist ends at my face. If you want to kill yourself, have at it. If you want to make yourself sick and expect me to help you pay to try to become well….“Homey don’t play dat.”

In Denmark there’s a fatty tax. Food items are taxed according to how much fat is in them. Result: Denmark doesn’t have those weird obese human-things wobbling down the streets you see everywhere in the US and industry is forced to market alternatives. Common sense to protect citizens or evil government infringement?

While “bans” ARE a step to far in most cases, “advice and consent” is important as a role for that “promote the general welfare” role of government established in the Constitution.

That FDA, EPA, DEA, or ATF, among others, are hated by the right, and the corporate welfare state, and all efforts are being made by that same “right” to defund and defang all regulations intended to assure that “general welfare”, doesn’t show much interest in real national defense.

Transfats are created during the hydrogenation process. Hydrogenated oil gained in popularity as a substitute for oils high in saturated fat. The question is when did who first know hydrogenated oils were even worse than what they were meant to replace.
