NBC is breaking news that Mr. Obama knew that as many as 55million Americans would have their current healthcare coverage cancelled despite the promises he made on many occasions that no one would have to give up their insurance if they liked it. The loophole it appears he will use is, you don’t have to give it up, but if your employer cancels it that’s not the same as you giving it up. There is a real need for a healthcare plan that will bring down costs, give more Americans access, and is based on science, proven successes, and bipartisan legislation. As time passes, despite the people who are benefiting from the existing ACA, the holes in this boat are becoming more and more apparent. Rather than take this as an opportunity to present a better healthcare plan, conservatives are gleefully attacking and Democrats are snatching defeat from the jaws of what victory they have. And in the meantime, Americans wonder what happened to their gov’t and at media and politician fearmongering, turning on each other. It is very sad.Respectfully,C.

Remember, when you look at Fox News “real people” whose insurance premiums are going up, you’ll find people who had lousy insurance who (if they ever got sick) would have been thrown off their insurance, bankrupted, and then taken care of on the taxpayers dime. Their insurance is being cancelled because it’s lousy insurance, and once they look on the exchanges they’ll find sound insurance plans, usually much more affordable than the old extortionate ones. Also remember—as much as Rand Paul complains about Obamacare, that is his exact plan for Medicare. Government-run exchanges where you can buy insurance using your money and a small subsidy. Except that in his plan, they can turn you down if you’ve got pre-existing conditions.
(Spoiler Alert): It’s easy to dismiss Suzanne Somers as a ditzy blond, primarily because she played the part so well on TV. (I should know….)
Regardless, her first point: that it is socialized medicine, is completely, utterly wrong. The fact that the Wall Street Journal printed an entire article based on a single, totally fallacious premise is a good indicator of how far the WSJ has fallen in terms of journalistic ideals, and how worthless it has become in terms of reliable dissemination of facts.
Interesting reading. And just to help clarify: my personally-funded health care insurance has more than quadrupled in the last ten years, despite a higher deductible, and less coverage. I called Anthem, my current insurer, to ask about alternatives. The first thing I was told is that, although my current plan is grandfathered, it doesn’t mean a thing.
My state, Virginia, is one of the many Republican-led states that has chosen not to offer health exchanges. According to the Anthem representative, grandfathered plans cease to exist in any state that does not have its own health exchanges.
So, what this really means is that Republicans once again have ensured their prophecies will come true. Kind of like saying your taxes will double, doubling taxes, and then saying: “See? I told you.”
I have to admire their absolute dedication to their single-minded stated purpose of making Mr. Obama’s administration fail. Right or wrong, make the country better or make it default and head towards depression, at least they’re working hard on the only thing that matters.

My insurance goes up about $45.00 a month next year. It’s a medicare supplement.
