Marimbas aren’t nearly loud enough to make someone’s ears ring… Heck, I used to have a neighbor who’d play the marimba at 2 AM and it didn’t even disturb my sleep.

Huh, and I always thought marimba was a dance.

Jeepers, Viola! Working out some hostilities? Frustrated by Petey’s ignorance of the MARIMBA (ear-ringer)?!(Alice, neither can Petey….)

I looked it up. According to Wikipedia, a marimba is a type of xylophone.“The marimba (About this sound mærimbə (help·info)) is a musical instrument in the percussion family. It consists of a set of wooden bars with resonators. The bars are struck with mallets to produce musical tones. The bars are arranged as those of a piano, with the accidentals raised vertically and overlapping the natural bars (similar to a piano) to aid the performer both visually and physically. This instrument is a type of xylophone, but with broader and lower tonal range and resonators.”

@kaecispopXThe marimba may be part of the xylophone family, but not in this context. Also from Wiki (under their xylophone entry): “In the orchestra, the term xylophone refers specifically to a chromatic instrument of somewhat higher pitch range than the marimba.”

My sister has one (she’s a percussionist) and it’s amazing how she can play like Viola) with four mallets, while I can’t carry a tune to save my life. It’s really heavy, and expensive too-the price of a small car. She also has a full set of drums.
