I think you are seeing the beginning of a new era in government. A government that will, by necessity, have to become smaller because a minority group in either house will not have to be trampled by the majority.
The government is out of borrowing capability and without both houses of congress agreeing to a raise there will be a default.
This is actually a good thing because for a long time the majority (those that don’t make enough to support themselves and their famiies) have been tyranizing the minority (those of us who voluntarily live within our means) by taxing away our earnings in the name of fairness.
The Tea Party is saying – “NO MORE!!!”
They won’t allow this to continue without some concessions and I for one think they are heros!!!
I don’t think the government should be in the Robin Hood business and think any impediments put in place to stop that activity are a good thing.
Dictator Obama continues to piss and moan about how it’s all the Republicans’ fault but it really comes down to a lack of leadership on his part. He didn’t get involved in the negotiations when he had the chance and when they broke down he felt he could just blame the Republicans. I think history has shown us that the majority of Americans agree with his opinion but again I take you back to the way our government was set up. It was intentionally designed to keep the majority from trampling on the rights of the minority.

Perhaps the two Tea Partiers above are correct: the sooner your country becomes a 2-bit backwater, the sooner the rest of the world is less dependant on trade with your large market. There’s always the Chinese. And Brazil. And India.
@omQ R – I think you misunderstand. I have no desire to see America become less of a Superpower. I’m trying to save it from the Parasites and the Loafers that feel they are entitled to the fruits of another’s labors simply because they were born into the greatest country in the world.

The senate (Harry Reid) doesn’t get a voice in the house unless they come together to negotiate and Harry Reid has said he won’t negotiate. So here we sit going nowhere because Harry Reid feels that he doesn’t have to budge and the House will have to. I guess we will find out whether he is right or not.
I think there will be hard times ahead if the two parts of congress don’t come together on an agreeement but there will be hard times ahead anyway for people like me who are forced to pay taxes that are then redistributed to those who don’t.
The Teaparty wants the rest of you to feel the pain as well.
What part of democracy are you following that you feel the Democrats should be able to reach into the pockets of the productive to pay the indolent?

I happen to enjoy both the writing style and the subject matter.I think you have seen Atlas shrugging for the last 10 or 20 years. Those that are willing to think and work are still doing OK in this economy. It is those that depend on handouts that are findning their environment much less hospitiable.

I live in the midwest surrounded by Engineers, Teachers, Laywers, Doctors, Farmers, Accountants, store owners. Most of the people I know are doing OK. Sure they would like to see a better economy but they aren’t living hand to mouth.
What they all have in common though (as far as I can see) is a sense that they are paying too much in taxes for too little in governemnt services. And that’s because much of the money that they provide in taxes go to direct handouts to other people who don’t espouse their same values. These are honest hard working people who take care of themselves and live within their means.
Instead of building infrastructure, or providing defense, the money goes into: Medicaid, Social Security, Food Stamps, Welfare, Obamacare (now), etc. etc. etc. And we can’t afford all these handouts. We never could. The only way we kept it up was by borrowing and living beyond our means as a country.
We really do have two economies today. The unemployment rate for Highschool dropouts is something like 15% (Not exact but check with BLS.Gov for the exact amount). The number goes down considerably for those with Bachelor’s degrees and goes down even further for those with advanced degrees to something like 2% (at least back in April the last time I checked).
I also take exception with you assuming that because they are super-rich they must have gotten their by netharious means. Bill Gates is Super-rich and he got their by building a company from a very successful set of products. He didn’t steal from the poor or tear others down (like some people I might mention). He worked hard and built something up from nothing. The makers of Google, Facebook, Verizon, etc. etc. are all Super-rich and they too got their through hard work and sacrifice.
If you have proof that someone did something wrong to get their wealth then take it to the authorities and make your case. Otherwise you just present as a sniveling whining turd who assumes that since you couldn’t figure out how to get rich legally then it must not be possible.

The Republicans see Obamacare as sufficiently unpopular as to be a good target for spending cuts until the economy is doing better but the Democrats in the Senate won’t negotiate. So there we are.
If President Obama wants to make sure he gets this freeby into the hands of the underinsured then he should be willing to give up something else.
Only in the world of the Democrats is an entitlement guarenteed forever whether the treasury can afford it or not. The only way they can keep giving out these freebies is to take money either from taxpayers today or by borrowing money and charging my children and grandchildren tomorrow.
Every law is ALWAYS up for negotiation. Even now Holder is talking about becoming more lenient on drug crimes because we can’t afford to encarcerate so many people. And it’s about time.
We need to reduce the number of people that think the government owes them a living and increase the number of people who should be paying for the upkeep of the government.
