I got a landline for a medical device to report in to the doctor’s office, and got my first junk call within 36 hours. Even I don’t know what the number is unless I can find that scrap of paper. After about a month I unplugged that phone.
@ Arlo that happens because you probably ordered something and put your cell phone number down. I used to be a telemarketer because I needed a job, I didn’t like calling people anymore than they liked to be called but the abuse I received was uncalled for. I was told several times to “get a real job” like I wanted to be a telemarketer. I also got a lot of perverts on the line. So when I get an unwanted call I either don’t answer or I’m polite when I decline.
Don’t need to restrict people’s right to speak via money. Do need to say where the money came from or of it is secret. That tells me plenty and should tell others as well.Do NOT need to spend public money to support candidates we do not want in office. Why should I pay the expenses of the communist party candidate, the nazi party candidate, the Give Everything To David Green party?
Well, maybe that last one.But if you limit to public funding, you spend money on candidates no sane human wants and/or forbid spending on newbies who might be the future of America.
The idea that you should give equal funding to the Democratic Party and the Republican Party and nobody else is simply silly.
The do-not-call list is just another needless government bureaucracy costing tax-payers money. Screen your own calls, people! Don’t depend on the government to do it for you!
The police are just another needless government bureaucracy costing tax-payers money. Protect your own property, people! Don’t depend on the government to do it for you!
I once had a job monitoring compliance at a call center. They were surprisingly good, inappropriate stuff was rare. But I don’t answer unknown telephone numbers.

If you don’t know the number, especially if it’s an out of state area code, just don’t answer.
You can look the number up online as well if they don’t leave a message (often it is scammers or the like).
That’s what I do at least.

It’s ‘bout time the FTC’s “Do Not Call List” had some teeth. Put that on the “To Do” list, Congress!Right after you all grow up and get back to work!

The “Do not call” thing is an illusion.
If you live in Canada, you get what Arlo calls “junk calls” from the United States.
If you live in the United States, they originate in Canada.
If you live in either country, you also get calls originating primarily in Asia.
There is no international treaty on junk calls.

That’s excellent, Jim! The iPhone is starting to catch up with Android!
Actually, considering how telemarketers abuse our time, that’s a good ploy you’re using to get back at them….

Most of the junk calls are recordings. So, if I don’t recognize the number, I don’t answer. If they don’t leave a message, I know it is a junk call.

I do. You still see them in stores, so somebody is buying them.
