Teacher: Good morning, Nina! Good morning, Paul! Good morning, Leo!
Kid: Good morning Ms. Harris.
Teacher: How are you, Pasquale?
Pasquale: I'm gaining knowledge every day!
School enthusiasts cannot conceal their eagerness to learn.
My motto is “Learn something new every day”. Of course, at 69 it has gotten harder to find new things to learn, but somehow I manage it anyway. There were many things I hated about school (bullies and getting up early, for instance) but, like Pasquale, I LOVED learning stuff.
My son was like that when he was in kindergarten, too. Then he would come home and play “school” with his little sister! He’d be the teacher, and she was the student. :)
Both of my daughters are STILL like that, in 3rd and 5th grades. However, both are well-liked by their peers and have stood up to what little bullying they did receive.
When I was in 6th grade (a smallish girl), I took care of a 5th grade bully (a largish boy) who was tormenting a 2nd grade girl (very, very small and loudly crying). Got such a reputation from that, that no one bothered me or any of my friends all the way through.
Not 100% extinct. Our granddaughter has a fiffth-grade teacher who has been in the business for over thirty years and “loves, loves, loves it.” (Cue hearts, smiling suns, rainbows.) Our grandson had her for fourth and fifth grades. She cares very much whether her students learn. There are other good teachers in this school, a public school in Sheboygan County, WI.
That’s pretty cynical. Did you have a bad experience, or are you going off of stereotypes? My daughters (kindergarten and 4th grade) are in public school and have very caring and engaged teachers. I have also volunteered in a different local public elementary school and found the same to be true there.
All of my son’s teachers and principals have know my son’s name and every other kid in the school. Last year he was in a school 0f 700 and his principal knew them all and the parents by site. He is in public school and it has been this way since Kindergarten. A few bad teachers do not make the all bad.
What I’m wondering is how Miss Harris keeps advancing a grade along with her students. I thought she was a 2nd. grade teacher and Pasquale is now in the 3rd. grade isn’t he?
Not as extinct as you think. I had aunts and cousins who taught in public schools and went out of their way to learn not only names of the kids, but their brothers and sisters who might be coming to the school. My one friend who still teaches also does that (most of my friends who started in teaching are now in other careers. Real teachers don’t want to turn kids into robots who just memorize numbers and fill in bubbles on test forms.)
Those in charge of letting it happen. Pray tell, who are they? Inquiring US minds would like to know. And I’m sure you know the causes, but before you leap to a conclusion, go read a book about a little thing called the Crusades. The battles between the Near East (now known as the Middle East) and the west began long, long before the current era.

…and the school bullies then can’t hide their eagerness to torment the enthusiasts. Swirly appointment at 1:00.

How do you figure those in charge in America let 9/11 happen? Whose idiotic books are you reading anyway?

What a happy boy.

Is it OK to quote from other books? Other religious holy books? Or is the Bible the only thing you have a bias against?
Part of the freedom in America is freedom of religion – we’re allowed to quote the Bible.

Do you jeer all religions equally?
Sharon Hayes over 10 years ago
Where you’re religious freedom ends is when you try to force it down MY throat.
