I think that Jay is lucky he got away with that comment. Usually when he makes comments like that he winds up in the artic or some other just as miserable place. With the whole Dilbert vs. Working Daze thing, I just couldn’t get into Dilbert. I guess my sense of humour just couldn’t adjust to that style. Whereas Working Daze is one of my favourite strips & has been from almost the beginning. (I started reading it just towards the end of the first artist to draw the strip), Keep up the great work.
Well, I think we really need to lobby for a story arch where Rita meets the Pointy-Haired Boss and they recognize themselves as soulmates. Maybe a trading wives type show with the strips trading bosses, although I’m not sure that either would notice the difference. Certainly neither company would suffer any more than usual.
Something tells me that Rita is about to get a case of the “big head” when this new app takes off. Even more than she already has. Then, when she gets sued by the Angry Bird people, she can blame Jay for it. There goes his winnings.
We personally have nothing against Dilbert. I enjoy the strip. I’d rather not be in competition, but there seems to be a unwritten limit to how many office humor strips are expected or allowed. Yet there were many before Dilbert. Bruce Hammond’s DUFFY dealt with technology and office politics from an 80’s standpoint. Bill Holbrook’s ON THE FASTRACK also began in the 80’s, and is still running.
I’m surprised they HAD a pool because I’d think the occuranc was totally unforseen!
I had a boss so bad that he seemed to be following a script written by the pointy haired guy. I would not even be afraid to call out his name in public because when I quit the company they had me fill a MANY paged very detailed exit interview, where I made it clear that while all my co-workers were fine, we had all the best equipment and software etc etc., I could NOT continue to work for someone who had no values (lying to clients about schedules and then trying to make us complete) lying to me about reserved parking (which I had opted over a raise) when he had none to give. Blaming me for engineering mistakes (by others that I had discovered). He was clueless, showed up for meetings always late and unprepared (and I was on time and covered for him). That was the only time I quit a job before securing another first. They since went out of business.
And I forgot to mention, his junior partner “retired” shortly before I left, only to become just an associate at another firm.

Heck, I talked to Scott Adams right after WD launched so Dilbert is far from taboo here. Heck pointed hair guy and Rita are soul mates.
