A commenter at jsonline thinks that the old guy may be the ghost of Ted West’s grandfather or the ghost of Phantom #19 (the P. who saved Ted West’s grandfather). The commenter bases his P. #19 posit on the dog’s resemblance to Devil, but my take is that P. would recognize his own grandfather. I think the BIG question is who is behind the drug smuggling and why was Ted West involved….??? JUDGE PARKER: So Thalia “just happens” to be a guest of a very wealthy person when this kidnap drama occurs…!!! We previously commented on K &R insurance. I’d like to bring the question of whether Thalia a U.S. citizen into the commentary. It seems to me that, whatever her citizenship, the state department of her country (and/or Ross’s country) should be involved at this point. I think Thalia’s distress is a con, but I also think we’re supposed to think it’s a con. MARY WORTH: @Arye – I agree. Today’s strip doesn’t move the story forward. REX MORGAN: I’m looking forward to getting back to a story with some adult drama.

P would fight the drug smuggling in any case, but he’s also puzzled by the appearance and disappearance of the balloonist and intrigued by the story he read about his grandfather’s experience in WWI. I think P sees Ted as a pawn in the bigger drug trade and wants to help him and maybe catch the big bosses.Judge Parker – I think our government has a policy of not paying ransom but I think they would help with negotiations. At the time this story began, I read of a case where they sent in a SEAL team because the woman hostage’s health was deteriorating.Mary Worth – Yesterday I thought Mary was giving Shannon a judgmental look, but today she expresses understanding. You never know how someone else is going to take your “suggestions”. Maybe that’s why therapists use such vague comments. Mainly they just ask the right questions.Mark Trail – The art is interesting and not many words are necessary. Maybe that’s easier for Elrod.
PHANTOM: I’m more inclined to think the ghost is either Ted West’s grandfather or GGF. I think there’s a resemblance in facial structure. Perhaps he’s the grandfather and the son of the WWI soldier. We saw Phantom rescue the aeronaut, but he went right back to flying so may have been killed later (but did procreate at some point). I don’t think ghosts age so there are two apparitions involved in this story.Given the information provided by JanCinLV about Phantom’s upbringing, being educated in the U.S. he might not have known his grandfather.
There may not be any rules in the spirit world and they can appear or disappear anytime in whatever form they want to.I actually typed this a couple of hours ago but forgot to hit submit.
