"When the NSA identifies a suspect, it can look not just at his phone records, but also the records of everyone he calls, everyone who calls those people and everyone who calls those people. (Man: Can you all hear me now?) If the average person called 40 unique people three-hop analysis would allow the government to mine the records of 2.5 million Americans when investigating one suspected terrorist." -AP, 7-31-13. The logical culmination of such "gotta connect all the dots" thinking. (Woman: Some dude stole my bike.) (Man: Arrest everyone, search their houses and let go the one's without bikes.

Paranoia aside, the basis is wrong. The person with the stolen bike would say “I think Joe stole my bike,” they would pick up Joe and everyone he knows. .If you’re going to be demented, be rational about it.

Living in a national security state where all your emails and phone calls are monitored by low-level functionaries without cause and you can be thrown into prison as a “terrorist” without recourse? I’d say that rather hurts people. Go back and read 1984.

This Cartoon is Spot on!!!!
This is exactly what America has become – A national security state.
Where the people who cower under their beds afraid of terrorists are made to feel better by taking away the rights of average taxpaying citizens.

I think the one good thing coming from this whole NSA issue is now the Patriot Act and the surveillance of US citizens in the name of security from global terrorism is hated by the right wing also now. I would love to look at an alternate universe where either McCain won in 2008 or Romney won in 2012 and see if the right wing pundits would have anything negative to say about it then, or if it is just because Obama is President that they made it an issue…

It’s now 2013! Perhaps you would like to catch up with the times or should we talk about Watergate?

It seems that all the paranoid writers from the past – aldous huxley, George Orwell, Philip k. Dick – weren’t paranoid enough about the future.
