Interesting post on why we should try to consider “extreme events” (e.g., heat waves and, by extension, wildfires) in relation to climate issues, and how to do it reasonably:http://www.realclimate.org/index.php/archives/2012/09/why-bother-trying-to-attribute-extreme-events/comment-page-2/
You sound like Reagan, who had the Forest Service to stop responding to most fires as they were “natural occurrences”.Why did he have an ex-California State Trooper clearing brush on his “ranch” at an agency head’s salary? Why didn’t he just let it burn?
On the Yellowstone fire; was discussing the desperate need for fire in the park to clear things out and open the area back up to natural conditions: that was in 1964!!!
Tigger: when you know anything, ANYTHING AT ALL, about the history of resource, and fire management in the U.S., feel free to speak. Until you get even a single clue, please, stop embarrassing yourself with your ignorance. (I know, either Rush, Beck, or Faux said what you parrot, but oh, please!
“the Republicans championed sequestration, which gutted money meant for fire suppression programs, like controlled burns and underbrush management, firefighter pay, and firefighter equipment. Republicans love to cut funds for essential programs.”

“…would be appropriate before of politicizing this.”That says it all. Many of us are concerned about the future for our children, based on what the science shows. But people like Ansonia only see it as politics, putting short term profits ahead of long term benefits.
“progressives attempting to “preserve” nature are the reason for the disasters.”So you’d like to, say, speed up the destruction of the rain forests even more?

So a not so real 3% reduction in the growth of budget is why we have fires. Nobodies budget was cut for FY2013, which we are in now.
