Also remember when they had all the NBC stars hosting the videos in pre-recorded clips to introduce each one… and of course before the oversaturation of 24 hour channels, the over exposure (literally and figuratively) of celebrities and performers… FNV and the like was the only times when we got to see the “stars”… and that made it a weekly event to sit and watch, and appreciate… “the last vestiges of the human touch”, as it were…. =My wife and I talk about it all the time, and we search YouTube for some of the clips and the like…

Yeah, my wife and I do that, too! Got a bunch of music DVDs VHSs, (and also some sitcom DVDs from that era, for the TGIF block)… we try to stay up and watch shows the way they used to be on Friday nights, and the music videos, too…. and sometimes on Saturday mornings, we pop in the cartoons the same way, when our schedule allows us to…. =And she loves Mannix, Ironside, classic Perry, and CHiPs, and the like… we include that, too… in the key of Archie and Edith, “Those were the days!”…..

We even turn down the sound and do the “voice over” for some of the music videos and tv shows, where we do like they did on “whose line….” replacing people’s dialogue with ad-libs, or coming up with our own literal videos, sort of like the ones they do on YouTube….

“Jay – remember the music videos prior to MTV, – – I think it was “Friday Night Videos?””

Actually, Friday Night Videos debuted well after MTV had launched. It was the first Broadcast network’s response to MTV.

MTV launched 08/01/1981 “Ladies & Gentlemen… Rock & Roll” Friday Night Videos (many of which found their way onto my 1st Betamax tapes) started 07/29/1983, and was an offshoot of the old Dick Ebersole series “The Midnight Special” with “Wolfman Jack.”

“And let the midnight speical….. shine its ever lovin’ light on you!….”

Trivia Quiz: What was the very first video aired on MTV, right after “Ladies & Gentlemen… Rock and Roll…”?

Yeah, when aspiring actors all over the world think about the great drama schools which they would most like to attend and would travel halfway across the globe for the experience, the name that comes up most often is “Pitt High School, California”. It’s practically a factory for cranking out Oscar-winners. That’s certainly worth Quill leaving his family behind and quitting his school in Australia, where he is already half-way through his senior year now!!!

I know this is just a comic (and it strives to be a “funny” one, or at least a moderately amusing one, at that), but doesn’t Greg Evans want us to regard this “slice of life” comic strip as being in any way realistic? The only way this story line could be more far-fetched is if Quill and Luann decide to spend their senior year together by both enrolling in high school on Mars.

MeTV runs “Perry Mason” twice a day, at 10 a.m. and 11:30 p.m. (different episodes, not the same episode twice a day).^Yeah, we get it on channel 208 on our cable provider… when I was saying "those were the days, I meant that there were nights when you only needed public broadcast (heavily emphasize the hidden word in it- free and mostly equiptmentless, but 99% emphasize free, LOL!) television to watch it, and quality shows were more abundant for the whole family….. =You also reminded me that I forgot to add Emergency and Wild Wild West onto the list=Oh yeah, almost forgot to “gripe” about how TV Land is subtly changing, too… no more of the all weekend marathons of “Chico And The Man” or “Welcome Back Kotter” or “Get Smart”, etc….. their marathons now are just “not the same”…

RETRO like METV is a syndicated channel usually offered by local network affiliates on one of the two side and channels made available to them by conversion to digital. In my area, METV is offerred by the NBC affiliate and RETRO by the CBS affiliate. The advantage to this is that they are available over the air as well as cable/satellite.

No, actually…. it’s a “memento in Sacramento”…. it’s the “badge of knowledge”…. the right to be correct… and no taxes to declare, unlike a real contest… =And technically, though the show officially launched after MTV, it was seen by many way before MTV was… even when I did live in the city, there wasn’t a widespread audience for cable… so, in a way, one could say it was out before MTV, not in the official and chronological sense, of course, but only in the sense of getting more opportunity to see FNV before MTV, since FNV was on regular TV and cable was not the widespread medium it is, today…

About their senior year being this September, Luann says: “To do his (Quill’s) senior year here! He’d graduate with us!”It troubles me that some posters think he’ll be in a plane crash…a lot of young people read “Luann,” and I don’t think Greg would write such a terrible storyline with a (somewhat) major character dying just when things are starting to go right. There’s enough blood and gore in games, movies, and TV…shouldn’t there be someplace that doesn’t buy into all the violence stuff?…JMO

ATTENTION! ^There is a concern that somehow there is a plane crash… while I could not possibly know for sure, there is no conclusive evidence of such a thing happening… possibly the “Sherrif” (Mr. Mordecai) may have some clue (?) But it is not like Mr. Evans to kill off any characters in such fashion… such a thing would be a major step to take….. there is no need to fear the worst so soon… while such a thing may not be totally impossible, history and patterns would indicate that it could be improbable… =Again, while such a thing would not be totally out of the realm of possibility, there is no reason to think that it is imminent…
