@dquared,it wasn’t an attempt, it was a chunk. I hope it was a ‘last gasp’ like California’s prop 8 (which we will find out today if that was a ‘last gasp’.

I wish the Conservatives/Republicans would stay under their rock where its warm and dark and they can feel safe. Keep them away from reality. They can’t handle it. Their reality is frightening.

The Roberts Court is taking over the functions of Congress. That’s what’s unconstitutional.

the Reality is that Republicans are generally racist…yes. No-one is disputing that; they also tend to be misogynous and homophobic. Why break a losing streak?

A literacy test? Then you just failed it… English takes a capital "e ". So glad to know you won’t be voting in the next election… because you have such integrity that you will decline so as to follow your own ideology.

Are you lefties really worried that you can’t get enough people to go out and vote?.With more and more people on public assistance, that’s DNC votes bought and paid for!.Try being a libertarian where we can’t lie or buy votes.

This misses the point. It’s “just a flesh wound”. The law still stands. It’s now just up to Congress to determine what parts of the country might likely practice voter suppression based on race. I’m sure they will take care of that responsibility, as soon as they finish with their fixing of the economy, ensuring the end of banking shenanigans that can tank the economy in the future, and….oh, that laser-like focus on creating jobs.

I’m sure it will be done by the end of the week.

I’m wondering if many of the commenters here actually understand the decision. The Court did not say that Congress could not impose federal oversight where voting rights are at risk, as long as the data they use is contemporary. When Congress extended the Voting Rights Act in 2006, they did so using data that was nearly 40 years old. Imagine in your personal life, being judged on what you did more than 40 years ago. That’s what they invalidated. BTW, the Congress had plenty of notice that this was problematic, based on the Northwest Austin Municipal Utility District Number One VS Holder decision in 2009.

“Only Reality is Reality.”.I would agree with that, except for the obvious fact that YOU are attempting to define what is real. There is “reality,” and there is the conservative, narrow focused and outrageously biased view of “reality,” which isn’t “reality” at all.

“The Dimocrap Party”.The minute you revert to such 3rd grade name-calling, any argument you make becomes meaningless. When you can discuss like an adult, your opinions will be considered like those of an adult. If you name-call, you will be treated like a petulant child.Your choice, tho’ I suspect you’ll stick with the name-calling.

“The Left feeds on hatred.”.Sorry, but incorrect. The Left reacts to hatred with repulsion. Hatred is evil, and we Lefties react to it like any healthy person reacts to something abominable. The Right is built on hatred; hatred for women’s rights, minority rights, gay rights. The Right hates everything that isn’t white Christian men’s rights. You can cast as many stones as you care to, but the Left is “The Big Tent,” and the Right is just a shabby “shotgun shack.”

“They probably consider as “racist” anyone who didn’t twice vote for Obama… ".Only those who would refuse to vote for Obama because of his color; and if you are denying that there are plenty of people like that in the GOP then you are simply fooling yourself (and others like you), but not anyone else.

Omnius: The Supreme Court isn’t racist, just the five members who regularly get high honoraria speech contracts from the Koch brothers. Can you say bribe?

“The Dimocrap Party calls the conservatives and the Republicans and the Tea Party a very backward and intolerant group…your comments certainly don’t reflect even the slightest bit of tolerance…’maybe you should think about that… … =o)”

Name calling doesn’t enhance your credibility, which is flawed anyway, since you don’t appear to grasp that this entire government is going determinedly in one direction, no opposition from either side.

’ … Divided We Fall’ says the old saying.

How long are you going to let them continue to divide us? We’re in free fall now.

“Well, you seem to be pretty good at name-calling, Mr Smee…I doubt you are equally adept at defending your insulting an’ demeaning rhetoric.”

There is a difference between name-calling and definition. I’d say that the definitions used are pretty accurate, on the whole.

Name calling would refer to your many associates referring to the President as ‘Odumbo’.

Better swot up some before you attempt that literacy test …

I think that Bill Maher summed it best: “Not all Republicans are racist, but if you are a racist you probably also are a Republican”.

“I refused to Vote for Obama and his opponents in 2008 and 2012 as I did not agree with their politics”And I would not call you a “racist.”I believe that any sitting president is fair game for his (and someday her) detractors, but if the reason for not liking the President has to do with his race (and you’ve stated clearly that in your case it wasn’t), that is “racist.”That’s fair enough, isn’t it?

“You have resorted to 3rd grade name calling any many of your arguments.”Some, admittedly, but not that many. And my name calling is certainly above the 3rd grade level (I mean “Dimocraps?” Really?).

Do be so kind as to indicate some specifics of wide spread Leftist voter fraud in America; or are you simply making an outrageous and, without proof, meaningless accusation? That’s certainly how it sounds.
