Breaking stereotypes, are there any redneck gays? Or He-man macho member of the armed forces? I recall a former seal going through a sex change on the news recently. What other stereotypes have been broken? A gangsta gay?

Just an FYI — this is the correct (French)spelling for “chaise longue.” It’s been converted to the more familiar “lounge” in English, but “longue” is correct. One more educational op in Over the Hedgeland.

The discussion re: the word Gay reminds me of a Cary Grant line, from Bringing Up Baby. He’s wearing a dress because his clothes have been ruined, somehow, by Katharyn Hepburn, and someone asks him why he’s dressed that way. “I suddenly came over all gay.”

Actually, it’s not…. technically. The proper term is “Chaise longue” (french, meaning long chair). Americans corrupted the term to chaise lounge, associating the chair with lounging, which is sorta sensible, but incorrect.

Faggot was a totally different word too, it meant the end of a burnt stick, aka the partialy burnt ends of wood the rich would throw out and the poor would take to use. Also used for ciggarets.

And queer just ment odd..Macaroni on the other hand (as in Yankee Doodle Dandy) meant at best metrosexual and usually refered to men who primped too much.
