one of my co-workers back in the late ’90’s was named Mercedes- she was hispanic, believe it or not.

Edsel, on the other hand…the name sounds like it should’ve been left in the dark ages…don’t know what possess henry to name one of his children that bizzarre name…

That isn’t the common alcohol (ethyl)! That’s furfuryl alcohol!

I don’t know the term “furanol”. Neither does Wikipedia, it seems. Google knows, but suggests it’s C4H4O2. That’s insufficient by a methylene bridge, I think. If I got the term right …

Kekule said that the idea for benzene’s structure came to him in a dream. One sort of wonders whether any substance assisted that dream.

We were taking a cruise from New Orleans in 1997. The previous December, the MV Bright Field lost power and plowed into the Riverwalk shopping center parking garage. My first impression, upon seeing the mangled wreckage of luxury cars was. “Well, that’s the way the Mercedes bends.”

Not really a furanol, because there is a carbon between the -OH and the furan. More like, 2-hydroxymethyl-furan, but there doesn’t seem anything notable about that compound as far as I can tell. Apparently (sez google) 2,5-bis(hydroxymethyl)furan can be used as an intermediate for certain polymers.

So, does BC have an innie or an AudI?
