So we’re the bankrupt policeman of the world and you’re OK with that? He was our man in the middle east until he showed some initiative on his own, then we had to teach him a trillion dollar lesson. I agree with you sometimes, this time you are off your rocker.
Mr. Powell should not be in that picture. He told Mr. Bush that if we went into Iraq we would own it. “If we break that, we’ll own it.” and went on to explain why he was against the idea. He was so against it, the administration lied to him and he is still quietly angry about having been put in the position of lying to the UN.Is that dessert made from yellow cake? A little U308 with a nice lemon chiffon frosting? The fellow sitting between Mr. Bush and Mr. Powell would like some to go. He’s always hungry.Respectfully,C.
A colleague of mine I worked with in Germany was from Baghdad. I contacted him last weekend about the tenth anniversary of the war. He has still not been back, and still does not know the whereabouts of his family. He is Sunni, and worked as a manager in Iraq’s state run telecomm industry. Because of his position and religion, he was branded as a traitor by the local Shia militias, so he fled after one of his partners was “executed” on the way to work. He still cannot reach out to his family, because a Shia friend of his has told him their nieghborhood is still run by militia, and contact could put them in danger (the local militia leader still wants him executed). This man’s “crime” is being Sunni, and holding a position under Saddam that was supervisory to some who were Shia.Real nice freedom there.
I am kicking myself for not bringing in the quote I have at home; I even had a note to do so and forgot.
I’ll try to have it with me next time I post. It is a quote from Dubya’s Defense Secretary, who answered the question of why we didn’t march to Baghdad in Gulf War I by saying something along the lines of: What happens if we take out Saddam? Once the central government is gone, Iraq will attempt to split into three parts, and it is likely to proceed to Civil War.
The prescient Defense Secretary’s name was Dick Cheney. Whatever made him change from a rational pragmatist to a nutcase neo-con is anyone’s guess.
“We still don’t know we’re fighting World War Three. The enemy knew it then and still knows it.The confusion on our part has to do with the old carrard about how generals “always fight the last war”. I.e., we’re defining the current problem in light of the past several centuries of western civilizations where wars are faught between nation-states.This enemy is not a nation-state. It crosses borders and not wveryone inside a border is the enemy.
But it’s still WW3."
you keep saying that and you’re correct. The first two chapters in the book are the PLO Charter and Osama Bin Ladens Fatwah. Read those two things and you’ll undersstand exactly how the west is falling totally into bin ladens plan. to the letter. We don’t understand, we can’t see another side, we can’t help ourselves.we are indeed fighting the last war, and are unaware of the war we are fighting right now.
I can’t speak for Clinton, and I think you mean Bill from your pronoun, but after the ‘conflict’ in Bosnia, he may have felt we should take a break. Why are you making me make excuses for politicians when you know how I feel about them.Amiably,C.
“We removed a madman who threatened his neighbors and gave the Iraqi people a chance to have freedom, planting the seed in a region bereft of hope or sanity.”i never heard a more sanguine description of the electrion of barack obama. Thank you for that rightsright.
Do you come here to put your ignorance on display? If Saddam was to be punished for Kuwait, shouldn’t it have happened in 1991 and not 2003?There were years of sanctions against Iraq which crippled their economy. There was a no fly zone.Anytime Saddam stepped out of line missile and air attacks were launched against targets in Iraq. I don’t know if Saddam suffered, but the Iraqi people were clearly punished for the invasion of Kuwait.

The population of Iraq is roughly 31 million. Are the other 29 million hiding with the WMDs?

Wow that really is an accomplishment, I wonder how of 30 million Iraqi citizens in 2003, and 32 million now, a total of 50 million were liberated
