For those of you PC persons, I left a final comment at the end of yesterday’s strip, just before the turn.My only comment today is that I am disappointed in Joanie for not having the confidence in her own abilities. But like many seniors, she ( like many of us ) does not have the confidence in herself that she had 30 years ago.And maybe that’s GT’s point ?

I’m not getting better; I’m getting older. But it’s not that bad: people are kinder and more helpful to the old, making them and the recipient feel better about thtemselves. Some seniors, however, feel the condescention acutely.

Actually “cow” has gender implications too. And no, the “B word” has not lost the female context. Even when applied to a male, part of the slur implies female characteristics. I’d recommend “Linguist” stays with “twit” if he (I assume somehow) is too lazy to actually describe what he means.

I won’t address anybody younger than me as “sir” That is happening less and less now-a-days.

Today’s comments reprise fairly well-established complaints about the young, to wit:

“Our youth now love luxury. They have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for their elders and love chatter in place of exercise; they no longer rise when elders enter the room; they contradict their parents, chatter before company; gobble up their food and tyrannize their teachers.”

hi ho the glamorous life. where politics & showbiz converge, & a Palin can take center stage to satisfy the buttoned-up longings of the Good Old Boys. How any older woman could feel confident in this world is a mystery. Perhaps only those who are not asking for or receiving validation from outer things. those who are well loved, or have entered into Acceptance 101, the class that keeps on taking in new members.

Oh, I dread where this can go. Every last one of us has a thousand little tics and wierdnesses that flit across our face when we’re engaged. We all need to be trained out of them, and watching videos of ourselves—taking when we are engaged in something other than the filming—is the best way to learn how to maintain a straight face.

Joanie has never had that training (which should be undertaken by anyone who wants to be in the public eye). She can be totally manipulated by the voice in her ear.

may I offer ‘cow’ as a perhaps less contentious alternative?.Perhaps “whelp” might be an acceotable substitute. One of the dictionary definitions I found, “A worthless young fellow.” And since today “fellow” is quite often used without being gender specific …

Ugh. This whole storyline makes me sad. The young girl’s arrogance and condescension is gross. Come on, Joanie!

There was bound to be something in her ear. It is all about comedy in this case. Jon Stewart uses the idea of someone talking in his ear all the time…

    1. I’ve never heard “fellow” used to a denote a female, unless it’s used as an academic designation per Wikipedia: “In academia, a fellow is a member of an elite group of learned people who are awarded an academic position (called a fellowship) to work together as peers in the pursuit of mutual knowledge or practice.” 2. Some of us old druids feel more self confident than we did in earlier years, since we no longer give a flying frisbee about what other people think.

MSNBC has both news and opinions. Like the other cable networks.

MSNBC has a documentary tonight on the Iraq War, being the 10th anniversary of the fiasco. Someone said that the Democrats were all in favor of going to Iraq also. Not so. Many Democrats supported President Obama, who did not support going into Iraq. Also, as Kaffekuppe and others have pointed out, the Bush administration falsified the intel on going to Iraq, something that goes further than the accusation that they acted upon false info. The Dems had no reason to falsify anything in order to go to war. Bush did want to get even with Saddam, on behalf of his daddy. Others said that we were not sympathetic with the Iraqis because we didn’t want to invade Iraq. Sadly, there are many horrible dictators. We can’t invade every country which has a horrible dictator.

Of course, MSNBC calls itself “The Place for Politics”, unlike Faux “News Channel” which is all rightwing opinion all the time, even during " news".

A commission to investigate GT? Has he lost his First Amendment right to write about the subjects of his choosing?
