There was a rumor during the election of ’76 that Carter was allergic to peanuts.

The president who lusted in his heart? Who declared the “moral equivalent of war” on American oil dependency? Who gave away the Panama Canal? The one with all the teeth? That Jimmy Carter? Yeah, I seem to remember something about him.

What Lio reads is the sad truth. Old, safe warhorses block newer, sometimes better, strips. But the Rerunuts Gang are right; ol’ Jimmy did have the peanut farm down in Georgia; so, he did literally used to work for peanuts….

One thing good you can say about Carter, he makes a great EX-president. Although if any of you happen to read your children’s or grand-children’s history books, they’ve been re-written to make it sound like he was a great president. Lots of other things have been changed too.

President Carter is still alive, and has been a much better ex-president than a president.

Hey, I grew up on that strip! (Back when it was big enough to read).

Look, Mark. I get the rant. I really do. But you are dealing with NEWSPAPERS… Half your audience doesn’t even know what those ARE, (or care.) PRINT is deader than Elvis. And only old mummies and fossils still read them. Hence they HAVE to cater to their dying out base. My goodness. They would much rather read OLD Peanuts, Pogo and Nancy than ANYTHING innovative and current like Your strip and others on the net. You’re just going to have to accept that. <3 <3 :-D

I’m not that old and I can’t even imagine doing without my morning paper. In fact, that’s where I read “Lio”, my current favorite comic strip, every morning. Comics started to shrink a long time before Schulz retired. But anybody can get any comic they want online these days. (Can you picture “Pibgorn” in a newspaper?)

I love Peanuts. But I understand what Mark is talking about. Why do we continue to get old re-run comics in the paper? They take up the space where a new, more relevant comic could be. I love Charlie Brown. Sparky had his chance now give somebody else a chance. But the syndicates, like everything else in life are driven by profit and money. So why pull Peanuts? It’s a cash cow. A new strip is a gamble; it’s a gamble that that space in the paper could be filled by a competitor. This really has nothing to do with Carter, good or bad. Just passe’.

Does this one ever touch a nerve…especially since the Chicago Tribune dropped Lio a while back (along with two other newer, innovative strips) but they still run Peanuts reruns and For Better or For Worse reruns. Really eats my lunch. Completely disagree with pastorbosh—complain away, Mark, and don’t ever accept gutless decision-making.
