Simpson-Bowles calls for a LOT more in tax increases than Obama ever proposed, and much more in pain for the poor than is necessary. The only Republicans who support it didn’t actually read it (and not one GOP member of the committee voted for it).

I love how you right wingers are so partisan in your complaints but could you please be a little louder with them? I mean the stats I have posted are good but i know you guys can make them sooo much better:

Among all voters, only 19 percent approve of Republicans in Congress – including a dreadful 15 percent of self-identified Independents.

House Speaker John Boehner’s favorability ratings have plunged to just 20 percent. His unfavorability rating now sits at 42 percent, a new high in Quinnipiac’s tracking.

The danger for Republicans is that the budget cuts will severely weaken public support for the austerity theme that the party has been promoting since 2010. The cuts will make “deficit reduction” something very real to average American citizens and business and something that is often quite painful rather than an abstract debate over numbers. The spending cuts will shift the debate toward the specifics. Americans will watch as government services are retrenched. The last time this happened, things didn’t go well for the GOP.

Thank guys, please keep it up, 2014 will get here quicker than you know!!!

“BARRY”… mmm, show’s your particular bias. I (and most Americans if you look at the last election results) are getting tired of you right wingers just blaming the President for everything. Why don’t you whine a little about Bohner and Cantor – they can’t seem to lead the congressional Rep’s to any worthwile end….

“Simpson-Bowels are the twins of austerity and that is poison in a Depression. And we are in one with a very weak recovery.”

Somehow that seems a little extreme to call them austerity when they are actually raising taxes and eliminating deductions to generate more revenue, including eliminating the tax break for long term capital gains. I realize they are also suggesting capping spending and freezing wages for many government workers. Business leaders all over the country endorsed this action and it would definitely impact them. They felt it would be a positive impetus for business to expand markets and reinvest in new capital. If we are to wait for some magic time when everything is better before we tackle our fiscal issues I fear we would repeat Japan’s economic malaise of the last 20 years…
