Until Hagel is confirmed, he still has to do the job. Plenipotentiary is not quite right: having or conferring full power or authority. Close enough for government work!
Mr. Panetta is becoming less politic in his comments to legislators. How long before cspan has to start beeping some of his responses to congressional questions? He’s done well under difficult circumstances, I’m sorry he’s leaving.Respectfully,C.
Yes, Panetta is trying to quit, had his farewell party two weeks ago, but had to represent the US in Europe last weekend. The GOP is filibustering the new defense secretary. First time ever! A new world record in preventing America to function as a country! They should be so proud.
Senator Hagel is the BEST choice to run the pPentagon as he is one of the few in the Congress who has been in combat, wounded, and has lost friends to combat. He knows the B.S. that flows down the chain of command to wash over the “Boots on the Ground”. As to the Israeli lobby; it, the NRA, and the Cuban expats in Florida have far to much wag on our dog of a government.
If he were in any way inappropriate, I’d be the first to say he shouldn’t be approved. That’s not the basis for the denial,as you make very clear in your post — there are no valid arguments. The basis is “Anything Obama wants, we’ll block. America be damned.”
‘Would you elucidate as to why he is unqualified and inappropriate.’-Well, you know, he was nominated by Obama. That’s proof positive that he is a socialist communist facist, and probably a muslim.-What more proof could any Fox “news” adherant want?

Its usually reserved for ambassadors, who act in the place of the president/prime minister, etc.

Hagel is not a good choice and that is why he is being blocked.. Too to Islam, too unfriendly to Israel (USA’a only real ally in the Middle East)

Detective Columbo was the all-time master at the annoying “Oh, just one more thing!” Of course, he had a tactical reason for doing it……..
