Good morning, Vagabonds. I grew up in Yonkers, NY and curiosity made me google “Lincoln Park,” the neighborhood to the west of my neighborhood, McLean heights. I pasted the New York Times real estate article to 2 high school mates whose emails I had. I received a nice reply from one of them who I’m in regular touch with and a surprising reply and thank you from the other, who I rarely hear from. He detailed to me everything going on in his life. I imagine he’s about 70 now and I’ve known him since he was 13.
Now, @DAVID, a dilemma inspired by this week’s “Tom the Dancing Bug”: If someone (like the Devil in “Job”) says that if God can do anything including creating a rock that’s too heavy for God to carry and God can do anything, so He creates such a rock but it’s too heavy for Him to carry, but yet he can do anything – why can’t he carry that rock if He can do anything, including creating a rock that’s too heavy for Him to carry.My own answer would be: Since we can’t contemplate the nature of God (such as when He began, etc.) then we can’t contemplate the answer to the above riddle
Actually, I heard this silly argument back when I was in High School. It was probably invented by the atheists to try to disprove the existence of God. The riddle is a paradox. There is no way to answer it either yes or no because it was designed to trap the person being asked. If someone answers yes, than God is not omnipotent because He cannot lift the rock. So the person backtracks and answers no, which again limits God’s powers because He can’t make that rock. I like your approach. God is so above our understanding that such questions are meaningless. His nature is so unfathomable that we cannot even conceive of Him existing from eternity to eternity. We are finite, He is infinite.

26 right now. Our only chance of snow is sometime this afternoon, then it will be WARM the rest of the week……close to 55!!!!!
I’m going for my EMG test today to see what the source of my hand/arm numbness is. Won’t know the results until the 15th. I’m not good at waiting that long for answers. :((
@Dkram: Actually, the Pharisees have gotten a bad rap. In fact, Jesus’ philosophy was closer to the Pharisees’ way of thinking than to the rival party, the Saducees. In Jesus’ parable, he mentions the Pharisees because they were ethical to a point while a few of them went too far. We find people of that way of thinking in every sect.
Arye, you are so right. Every sect, religion, etc. has its share of fanatics who carry things too far. Some of the things that have been done in the name of Christianity (a religion based on love) make my hair curl.
It’s warming up around here. The temp has been in the mid-sixties for a few days and is supposed to be in the low 70’s this weekend. It will be nice to be able to leave the doors & windows open for a little while.

I have finally caught that flu that is going around. My throat burns, my head feels like it is stuffed with cotton wool and I have no energy at all. I’m going back to bed now.
