Is this toon from 20 years ago?

As much as Barry doesn’t want to talk about his horrible record on the economy, the record number of people unemployed and underemployed might like some of his attention.

Dear Con Gov: I am 65 and I remember the slaughter of women during the religious domination of medical treatment. It’s either live by the rules of certain religion or endure the punnishment of infection, mutilation, death of dealing with a birth that the parent is unable to deal with. And should a woman then give birth and not be married, then she was further punished for being “bad” while the man was patted on the back for “being a real man”. I have women friends who had to have hystorectimies because of bad back alley abortions when they were in their teens or early 20’s. With the “record number” of unemployment do we really need more children born to parents who cannot afford or want them? Besides that, the groups that oppose abortion largely oppose sex education and birth control that would greatly lessen the need for abortions. You Cons are are all alike.

If you want to know what would happen if Roe v Wade was repealed, watch the movie “Vera Drake”.

Repeal abortion on demand then, : Make it a crime to fornicate. Prosecute men who fail to use condoms with their married wives if a child is not being planned. Ban Viagra as a “gateway” drug encouraging unwanted pregnancy. Provide chastity belts for parents to lock onto their daughters. Ban make up and clothing that makes a woman/man attractive unless they are married. Censor tv shows and movies that are too sexual. Burkahs for everyone!!!While the above is sarcastic and unreasonable to me, there are several commentators on this board who believe those enabling, receiving, or failing to report an abortion should be arrested, incarcerated, and/or executed for this ‘crime’. I know others whom I love and admire who would agree with my first paragraph. We cannot stop “sin” in others, we can only resolve moral conflicts within ourselves. However, I suggest that if you want to see an enormous reduction in abortions, the following-Recognize the value of a stay at home parent to supervise children/young adults returning from school. Give children who are already born love, access to education and healthcare, and the knowledge they are valued and important to their society, thereby increasing a sense of self worth they won’t want to lose to an unwanted pregnancy. And permit access to birth control medicines for those who are legal adults and sexually active.I grieve at the abortion of a viable potential human being. I detest the apathy shown to the needs of living children born into poverty or hardship. It is the children who walk among us that need our immediate love and attention before they grow up to be angry and frustrated men and women who have no loyalty or sense of belonging to the nation in which they were born.We do not have the infrastructure to support the millions of infants that would be born with needs should abortion be repealed. Also, I once read that fifteen years after Roe v Wade was law, crime rates in major cities began dropping. This was accredited to the reduced numbers of unwanted children on the streets. If this is true, then 15 years after abortion is banned, we could well see a rise in crime rates in addition to the cost of schools, healthcare, food, etc.Be careful what you wish for, my anti abortion neighbors…Your nation is not prepared to get it.Respectfully,C.

I am personally against abortion, but I am for keeping it legal. Why? Because I know that making abortion illegal won’t stop it from happening. It only makes it more dangerous to the woman receiving it.What gets me is that so many of the anti-abortion rights advocates don’t want to address the underlying factors that affects a woman’s decision to get an abortion. Sex education that includes both abstinence and birth control use can reduce the number of unintended pregnancy. Affordable birth control continues where sex education leaves off. Lifting woman and families out of poverty and making sure they have quality, affordable health care also steers women away from abortions. We will never completely end abortion. That’s a pipe dream. But we can reduce the numbers with practical measures.

Ideally what you “believe” is medically and scientifically indefensible nonsense. A ten week old fetus is not a baby by any stretch of the imagination. Even full term infants are essentially decerebrate – they have no functioning cortex in their brains. So, no matter how “human” they may look, they’re essentially mindless little zombies. I don’t support infanticide. In fact, I think that third trimester abortions should be performed only for extraordinary reasons, like saving the life of the mother, and these circumstances are quite rare; but I have to admit that this is an arbitrary decision that I can’t justify entirely on a scientific basis.

with all the std out there and a new one every month. Maybe we should be teaching morals on tv not the slut actions on tv. at least the use of condoms. I do not object to abortions but believe in birth control

My wife’s reaction to the growing anti-abortion movement is the same as mine — we fought this battle 40 years ago, Why must we fight it again? Anyone who claims to be “pro-life” but who opposes universal health coverage (at least for children who are already born), sensible gun legislation (NOT necessarily confiscation), improved access to higher education (REAL eduction, not religious indoctrination) and prompt and meaningful action on the looming disasters of climate change is, to put it bluntly, a hypocrite and a liar.

Making Guns Illegal will not stop Mass Shootings, yet you want to ban gunsNice try, but false equivalency. I never stated support for a total gun ban. Perhaps it was the voices in your head that said it.I support practical measures. There are no practical reasons for citizens to own military grade assault weapons. None.

The real war on women is killing them in the womb. Yeah, and it’s a war on men too.
