    At least no one is going to try calling her “Mrs. Irving Hillman.” That naming convention is dead, and good riddance.

    There is a LOT wrong with bring Mrs. Anything, Cathy, you ninny. It signifies that you have gone from being your father’s property to your husband’s property.

    I don’t see Mrs as indicating ownership, though I do see marital status as being irrelevant information. Ms. is simpler, so I imagine our society will eventually drift towards that naming convention. I have no preference as to whether I am called Ms. or Mrs.. My husband took my last name, so I never had to worry about choosing a name.

    The relatives never understand…the first time it was my side of the family that insisted on calling me Mrs……the second time it was my husband’s side of the family. We’ve been married 23 years and they just gave it up about 5 years ago.
