Irving, when are you going to learn NEVER to take anything a woman says at face value? If she says, “I don’t want anything for my birthday,” you’d better be hitting the stores weeks in advance. If your mother tells your fiancée not to bring anything for Thanksgiving, then said fiancée needs to be bringing at least a side dish, because that’s how she’s going to be judged as a future daughter-in-law and potential homemaker!

And while I’m ranting, ladies, men HATE it when you pull stuff like that, because we assume that when you tell us something, you actually mean what you’re saying, otherwise, you wouldn’t say it. We’re not mind readers, and we hate having to decipher complex “hidden messages,” so we don’t play those games with other men, and we WON’T play them with you!

@legal sorry you’ve only ever known crazy women. But in fact, the majority of us do say exactly what we mean. Except when we say everything is “fine”. You’d better be paying close attention when things are “fine”.

Damned if you do, damned if you don’t.

And so begins the contentious relationship Cathy’s going to have with her mother-in-law throughout her entire married life, no thanks to Irving getting them off on the wrong foot beginning here and now. Looks like he’s gonna owe his future wife a really big one of these by the time this trip is over!!!!!
