Have the dinner at one of your houses and invite both sets of parents so they all can get to know each other. Solved. Done. (back seat arranger, that’s me ; )

My husband refused to spend any holiday whatsoever with either of his parents, and now they’re both gone. Oh, how I love that his family’s dysfunction made our lives so much easier!

It was simple when my in laws and parents lived in the same state. Then my in laws moved down here and my parents refuse to travel… :P

Since Cathy can’t cook, I’ve got two suggestions they might want to consider:

1.) Always spend every Thanksgiving with Irving’s parents and Christmas with Cathy’s (or vice versa).

    or……….

2.) Spend Thanksgiving with his parents and Christmas with hers this year — then next year, swap and do it the other way around.

I’d throw in a third suggestion regarding Cathy and Irving inviting both sets of parents to their house for Thanksgiving and the mothers TEACH her how to cook, but since everyone has their own way of doing things in the kitchen (and can be quite territorial about it too, I might add), bringing both of them together at the same time might lead to extremely disastrous results food-wise — not to mention anger and hurt feelings towards the “other side of the family” for decades to come . . . and that wouldn’t be good for anyone!

A lot of restaurants serve really nice Thanksgiving dinners. We did this after one of the kids crawled across my dining room table in the middle of the meal one Thanksgiving and their mother made no effort to stop it. It was just so much easier to let the restaurant clean up the mess.
