Irving: I know that Cathy's had every Thanksgiving dinner of her life with you...but this year my parents have invited Cathy and me to fly to their home for Thanksgiving. It's their way of blessing our engagement and welcoming Cathy into the family...A chance for them to get to know your amazing, gorgeous daughter a little better...A chance to start what they hope will be a long, loving tradition of taking turns with the holidays! Mom: That's so beautfiul!! Does your mother make her sweet potatoes with those gooey little marshmallows?? Irving: No. Cathy: Sorry, honey. Mom: I win! Dad: You have her heart, but mother owns the stomach.

That’s one good thing about being single — I never have to worry about offending someone by choosing to spend the holidays with someone else!

Now it’s the kids from broken marriages that have to juggle the holidays.

Now, if my mom made sweet potatoes like that, I might give them a whirl. But when I was a kid, I used to like them and now, I just don’t care for them anymore. I know it’s probably all in my head, but one Thankgiving, my yam was more yellow on the inside than orange and it didn’t taste the same. In fact, it kind of tasted like the cooked carrots you get in a TV dinner which I was never fond of. And ever since, they just haven’t tasted the same to me. But I’d try sweet potatoes with the marshmallows. My mom will never make them that way, though. And neither will I unless I try them first to see if I like them. I’m not going to all that hassle only to find I still don’t like them.

Temptation’s a killer, ain’t it?
HI, MOM. Happy Sunday, “Cathy” Clan.

I simply cannot comprehend how anyone could eat potatoes with marshmallows on them. Or even brown sugar, for that matter. They’re SWEET potatoes people – no extra goo required! Toss ‘em in herbs and olive oil and roast ’em in the oven, and that’s one tasty side dish.

I’m with you, O-Kay! I love sweet potatoes on their own, sometimes with some cinnamon and honey (both of which are good for you, unlike marshmallows) or like you said, roasted. I feel like Mother nature knew best when food was made that way, so I try to eat natural foods..Hello Cathy friends!

No marshmallows for me, but I do use brown sugar and cinnamon. I cook dinner myself and no in-laws come for it. Except for the one Easter when my honey didn’t tell me his mom and grandma were coming. When I do go to my aunt’s for dinner, he doesn’t come along.
Hi Cathy friends!
