What happen to the conservative brown sweater with the tan knee socks? I can’t believe you are the same size you were as a junior in high school. Both my kids said I was calling you fat when you gained weight as a senior. But I always looked at you for what in your heart.

None of those are appropriate for any workplace, except for maybe if you work in a surf shop. Heck, even McDonalds would roll their eyes and hand you a uniform.Good morning, Cathy clan!

I know these comics are from years ago, but this particular problem is very current. There are few stores that sell clothes to women who work in office jobs. That’s one of the reasons why so many people shop online now. Stores don’t seem to get it, and they keep ordering clothes for women that are designed for teens playing fantasy games. Clothes for really young girls are just as bad.

The only update this needs is the visible tattoo. Today’s office casual includes more body art on the average female admin than the old time merchant marines! And I try hard not to think about the piercings.

When my little girl was ten, she said, “Dad, you have to do a lot of boring things to be in a position to do something you want to do.”

Always a maverick, she was accepted to the top five California public universities. She went to UC Santa Cruz for women studies. When we dropped her in her dorm room her first year, she never came home again.

She went into work that helped the poor and disadvantaged. While at “I have a Dream” in San Francisco, she helped prepare disadvantaged children prepare for college. We hosted a pizza party for them. You never realize the impact your child can have on other people’s lives until you meet them.

At 35, she gets that mood, after going to a baby shower, that she should be married and have a baby. I asked her if she has finished her dreams. No. Then, you better finish them. If you get married, you have to compromise and sometimes forget those dreams. Children need to be raised full time. They take your life over.

I know that my little girl would not be a complete woman unless she finished her dreams.

My little girl is going to Shanghi in September. She talks about spending a year in China teaching and traveling around Asia. She says she might meet the ONE. With the shortage of women in China and a chance of a green card, I hope she looks hard at the offers.

This strip is becoming more and more dated. Pretty soon it’ll be as un-interesting as many other strips have become….
