My first reaction to this one was an [eye-roll]. But, on second thought, as a guy, I can kinda relate to these dudes.

HI, MOM. Good Morning, “Cathy” Clan.

I don’t think they want to shop for those two, I think they just want their opinion. My guy is hard to shop for too, he doesn’t like traditional “guy” gifts too much. We usually just go out to dinner, satisfies us both and we get to spend time together without the children.

Seems pretty straightforward to me… But then again, I feel like if a couple wants to celebrate Valentine’s day, then they should, without harassment. By the same token, if they both want to treat it like another day, that’s fine too. It’s all up to what the couple agrees to. I just think it’s annoying when a couple celebrates Valentine’s Day, and others berate them for celebrating a “fake holiday” (or whatever they want to call it). Let each have their own decision and stay out of it!Hello Cathy clan!

My husband and I quit giving each other gifts for Valentine’s Day years ago . . . along with birthday and anniversary gifts, too. It’s already hard enough as it is to come up with one gift for Christmas let alone three more for those other occasions, as well. So all we do for each other in lieu of [gifts] is a nice, heart-felt card and dinner out together instead. Simple, but still very nice. Just giving me a rare night out of the house where I don’t have to cook for a change is more than enough gift for me!!!!! ;-)

    Hi, rgcviper!

lightenup: I agree with you. If people want to celebrate what other people call a “fake holiday” [aka: Valentine’s Day] then they should be allowed to do that without anyone giving them a hard time about it. If that’s what they want to do then, then why should anyone else care?

Hello and Happy Tuesday, fellow “Cathy” fans. Hope everyone had a really nice day today.

Most men just want food, beer and sex. Very simple creatures.

I agree with both of you lightenup and GretchensMom — we generally get a card, maybe a piece of candy or a flower and go out to dinner. This year it will be in Hawaii, but usually it is just at a restaurant we both like. Hand-wringing is hardly necessary.
