The elves do the work. They cut the wood, mine the metals, assemble the paints and paint what they make. They stitch the clothing for the dolls and load the sleigh. Santa is just a very fancy Fed Ex/UPS/Mail delivery “truck” driver.Yet in our world, the “elves” are overseen too often by people making six to eight figure salaries, not counting bonuses, with more profits sent to stockholders in the form of dividends. The pensions and benefits for the elves become tools to manipulate those profits, most recently at a loss, and then the elves are blamed for dragging down the company and profits, while executives give themselves more bonuses. More of the money is used to gamble on what the value vs. the yen, vs the pound sterling, vs the euro, vs the price of gold, vs oil futures etc etc etc., and so while no product is created, money is lost or created by simply betting on the value of money. The government gets blamed because in its efforts to be all things to all people it fails to be what is needed where need, and too often greed, actually exists.Yes, Virginia. The Christmas Magic is EVERYWHERE. Elves create toys made with love in the name of joy in a magic land where a large man owns flying reindeer. And on wall street, profits are created by betting on paper with paper while large men don’t give a flying…reindeer… for their elves who actually build the cars and homes, stitch the clothes and blankets, grow and harvest the food, and keep it all operating smoothly even though bosses and politicians hug the money, and criticize workers for being greedy,Mr. Gorrell, I believe your cartoon, succinct as it is, does convey the childish innocence that comes from not being fully educated on your subject. But then, education seems to be just another government handout whose teachers, with their demand for pensions, pay, and more resources for students, are just another drain on profits. Eisenhower warned we would need an educated and informed electorate in order to stand against the military/industrial(read corporate) machine. His first draft included Congress. Ever since that speech, our schools have come under attack and we have steadily slipped from one of the top five educated nations, to somewhere in the high 20s or 30’s.“Have a very merry Christmas/ and a Happy New Year, I hope it’s a good one, without any fear.”Respectfully,& Hopefully,

This would make sense if the child in the green jacket had said: “Yep… just like corporations!”

More like communism, comrade. Welcome to ‘hope and change’.1) The Soviet Union was a more vigorous union buster than US “conservatives.”2)You must be having some kind of flash back. The Republican fear of communism was replaced by the fear of terrorism, which was replaced by socialism, which was replaced by the fear of impending financial doom if the rich had to pay the same tax rate they were paying 20 years ago, which itself was recently replaced. You’re supposed to be spreading the fear of a distopian gunless future where every single citizen is being raped, robbed, and murdered every second of every day because they don’t have a gun to protect themselves. You know, like the home alarm service commercials.

If the public was aware enough, or smart enough, to see what Boehner’s people, like “Doc” Hastings as head of the House Natural Resources Committee was doing in the effort to give away to corporations and “friends” the trillions of dollars worth of taxpayer owned natural resources, let alone our public lands, national parks, and most precious “valuables”, they might rise up and run the “elves” on the right, out of town (D.C.) on a rail, in tar and feathers.

What’s your point? That so called conservatives don’t complain when so called government giveaways benefit military contractors, large corporations, and wealthy individuals. Those giveaways seem to be good while anything that benefits the less fortunate is inherently evil and will destroy the nation.

Jase,, you are right about that. They know they will never be poor or down on their luck and will never need any of the “free gifts” like social security and medicare that people have paid into all their working lives. They can’t imagine what so many of us go through such as impossible to pay medical bills, working a minimum wage job and finding you can’t stretch it far enough to pay for food, rent and if they need a car to go to work in, the upkeep on that. They don’t know that some people can’t afford a pet.

I hear the haliburton. Didn’t the president give money to some alt energy company that had china do all the work and then went bankrupt. Also most of if not all of that metal from cash for clunkers go to china. Didn’t obama say hey we have high unemployment so I will let the illeagals stay he so I can get votes. And they can do the job to keep unemployment high.
