“Didn’t any hot girls read his book?”

Becca Bickle’s pretty hot, and she not only read it (in manuscript form), but she then acquired the property for Random House publishers and (presumably) line-edited it.

Any others? Well, given the male readers we’ve already seen, would you really wanna meet ’em?

GT you’re killing me here, this is so funny! Damon reminds me of Zoltan, the cult leader from “Dude, where’s my car?”

fascinating thing is at all conventions, if there is a book signing or a celeb, there will be those people. sports, industry, entertainment, comics, video games, etc…there will be the 40 year old guy dressed in jets apparel crying in front of the joe namath signing his stuff. there will be 30 year olds in costume in awe of captain kirk and picard.

It’s the selection effect. Through the magic of cartooning, we’ve skipped all the non-funny transactions where people in or out of costumes just told him their names and gave him their money and got their books signed without incident.

Truedau is very good when he isn’t p- – - – g off that half of the spectrum uncomfortable with borrowing or printing half of every dollar we spend.

Trudeau is always very good, whether political or not. I especially love his political strips, but today’s strip was very special.

Not so fast, dudes ‘n’ dudettes. Like happened yesterday: Obviously the guy’s a vet with a brain injury, so shame on cartoonist Trudeau for poking fun at someone injured in service to our country.

If not the next W, at least he could be the next GOP nom.

Twenty-five bucks?! No way, the author only gets, at most, 10% of what the publisher sold the copy for at wholesale, and for a lot of publishers, royalties are 8% or even less. Unless you self-publish, in which case you have no distribution channels or advertising.

Comic con and other SF conventions are costume parties by definition, like the Renaissance Festivals. Many people attend in character, and have fun by staying in character. Very few actually believe they ARE that character, even if they tell you that at the convention.

“Nice try, but we all know the real name of the Emperor of Hubris. We can only wish we knew the truth about his birth, family and goals.”

You’re right, SkepticCal. But we do know the truth about the birth, family and goals of gopper “Tricky Dick” Nixon. Just as we know that Obama was born in the Aloha State and has better goals than to trick America about Watergate.

“When will Garry give us a symbol for the current POTUS? ¶ You know like prior symbols that were used to mock prior POTUS’s ????”

Well, he mocked Dem. Pres. Bill Clinton with a floating waffle. What symbol could he use for Barack Obama? Maybe we should all make suggestions here and hope Trudeau reads these comments?

I would suggest a cave entrance.

The O campaign symbol or a Hawaiian lei. When my father inlaw died, they put one on his tombstone, so I know it isn’t just for females by any means.

“… John McCain might have made a fair to middling President – and was far more a “Big Dog” Candidate than he got credit for ….”

Agree totally. Except that by “Her Man Cain” I wasn’t referring to John McCain, but to Herman Cain, one of the 2012 GOP nom “little dogs”.

Also agree that by hooking up with Sarah Palin John McCain did himself no favor. Then, after their defeat, she joined Faux News as commentator, thus showing us all how really “little” she was and remains. The GOP big dogs won’t admit that she did their ticket damage, surprise surprise, but notice how they bullied her into not running for the 2012 GOP nom.

Remember her “this is not a campaign bus” campaign bus?

I do have to agree with you, Trav, that Messiah W.Bush was taking the country down the toilet. However, Trudeau chose a different symbol, an ancient Roman helmet, to rep him.

Now that the W no longer visits the Rose Garden and Obama does — for a SECOND term no less — the country’s prospects have improved significantly. The W’s Great Recession bottomed out a year or so ago and now — on Obama’s watch — the economy’s improving slowly and steadily. It’s healing from the W’s Roman sword wounds.

You, of course, will join in with the rest of us in wishing the country well over the next four years?

C’mon now, pretty please? With sugar on top?

Actually, I’ve heard people pronouncing “Day” as “DaYah”. As in, “Good DaYah” = “Good DayAh” as far as pronunciation goes. I wouldn’t have known it was in error were it not for your explanatory post.
