I’d think that when underwear is too expensive, you just do without, like our ancestors. It’s really not that useful; you’re still considered indecent in it.
Most Xmas’ I received a pkg. of socks, a pkg. of underwear, an apple, and an orange, and, if it was a really special year, a $5-$10 toy, so I’m there with you, Agnes.
I was always fortunate enough to have real underwear growing up. But the shower cap notion reminds me of my mom’s wintertime innovation – on snowy days, we’d wear bread bags under our boots in order to keep our feet dry. It worked well, though I can’t say that I was a fan of wearing the bread bags as a kid.

I wish Agnes’ Grandmother had been a relative of mine: I LOVE creative dry humor. But then again, I’m lippy enough as it is at my job…

Her grandma should sign up for toys for tots, they really help when you can’t afford gifts for your children.

Toys for tots is for families that can not afford Christmas presents, not for those that are just too cheap to buy them.

There always had been the rubber pants so nothing really new except it was used over a diaper. She had better stick with the socks and underwear.

When I was 5yo, I asked Santa for a red dress and red socks. Got both and felt very, very blessed! I still remember those knee high socks! ;)
