Tony Cochran’s Agnes is a whimsical look at childhood through the eyes of the title character and her best friend, Trout. What sets this strip apart is the focus on that limbo just before little girls discover boys and appropriate social skills.

I guess Trout DOES know who her father is.
Wonder whether Agnes has ever met hers.

Surprising that the jobs at that plant haven’t been outsourced to China.

Hey, complaining is easy. When we lived in the rural outback part of our state,each little town had a sewing sweatshop. Work was hard and pay was lousy—it was basically piecework vs.pretty much minimum wage. If you were among the top performers you beat minimum wage by some; otherwise you got really low pay. There was perennial complaining in the media about these places. Now they are mostly gone— to where I have no clue. And the (mostly) women who worked in them either have no jobs or have to drive a gazillion miles to get to one. And the same original complainers are now complaining about the lack of local jobs. I’m not about to applaud those sweatshops. But at some point one has to wonder whether a minor part of something bad is better than a big part of something non-existent.

@rshive
Now, if we could just brainwash the 1% to be as complacent about their wealth and not grab more and more. Not going to happen, you say?

Hey, we’d each be happy to be among the 1%. And we’re always convinced that WE would do something different than THEY are doing. But would we really? I’m not so sure. Times change, circumstances change; but human nature, not so much.

If only we could get the 47% to realize that brainwashing is not a good thing and neither is begrudging a man his fair-gotten gains.

Your whole point is wrong. The super rich have been stealing from us, helped to make 47% of our population so poor they don’t pay tax on their earnings. While they uber rich use their extra money from us to take even more and wreck our economy. They are gold and platinum collar thieves.

Apparently, neither of Agnes’ parents make appearances in this strip.

I’m pretty sure that’s below poverty level.

KM — ah…. but we see only a few minutes a day of Agnes’ life….
I was referring to whether she’s ever seen him during the many more hours she has spent outside her strip.

How do they steal? How do they make others poorer? All I see are legitimate businessmen.

The federal government sets the poverty level at $15,130 per year for a family of two. (I’m assuming the $10,000 is per year rather than per month or per week..)

You have a problem with humor?

@Pete Rogan
“Ah, America! Where you can be proud to slowly starve for your millionaire boss and his billionaire banker! "

Or you can do something else.
You don’t have to work for anyone at all.
You can set what you are willing to work for. You can start your own business.
-
But it’s more fun to work for someone else then complain about your employer, call him a thief even as he does everything he has contracted to do for you, gripe about how your teachers stopped you from getting a better education and how your neighborhood is to blame too.
