Hmmm…appears the science experiment got out of control. Good thing she knows in the event of fire the first thing to do is get out.

My little sister set a rocking horse on fire when she was 8. To see if it would burn. She then told my brother (age 4) that they should wait for a while so they could say they just looked up an saw the rocking horse engulfed in flames. David wasn’t a fan of that, so he went running upstairs to tell me (age 12) and my older sister (21) that the rocking was on fire. My parents were in Jamaica at the time. So we go running down to the basement, where Sarah proceeds to calmly blow out the fire, while I panic and run all the way upstairs to the kitchen sink, completely bypassing the one in the basement, return in a cup full of water and throw it all over everyone. The fire was already out. Soooo then the interrogation began. Sarah: “So, Emily, what happened?” Emily: “It spontaneously combusted!” Sarah: “David?” At this point David kind of worshiped Emily in a terrified sort of way, so he looks at Emily, looks at Sarah, looks at Emily, back to Sarah, “The lighter is under the stairs!” and books it to safety in his room. With the door locked. He’s still alive, but poor Galahad never really recovered. A rocking horse was harmed in the production of this story. And Emily is still a pyro, but she confines it to the firepit.

I think I love this strip. It’s clearly from a woman’s point of view, but I find it really heartwarming that the men of the strip, Wally, Phil, Tom, and Evie’s male friend and Andy, despite whatever flaws they have, are all treated with warmth and respect.
I find sitcoms funny, but the ’isn’t dad stupid’ gags are really old and tired, and this is a pretty nice antidote to them.
