A book that came out last year makes the case that Van Gogh was actually shot by some locals, but since he didn’t feel like blaming them, he claimed he did it himself. (Don’t tell TTDB, but he actually walked out of that field wounded and died the next day, and no gun was ever found.)

Maybe somebody has some smartphone video of the day that will help clear up what really happened? Did anyone check Theo’s Youtube channel?

@Chikuku: Yes, I also saw that about the ear thing: they say it was Gaugin who cut him IIRC.

I only read the news reports, not the book, but the revisionist view seems credible, and definitely makes Van Gogh a more fascinating figure: still strange, but in the direction of being a truly great spirit rather than simply pathological.

@Night-Gaunt49: LOL, though I prefer the Daleks as role models.

Hmm. I’m happy to learn that. Which Dr. was it in? (I love Dr. Who, but haven’t been able to see the whole series — yet — darnit!).Is it possible that time and love have something in common… and that our love (and deep respect) could have reached, touched, and buoy’d some part of Vincent? I can only hope so… for him, and for others. .I have so greatly enjoyed his work.

I guess I’m the only one but I see this as a comment on the loneliness and isolation of much online experience.
