Really? The US didn’t have a budget surplus under Clinton? Then George W was lying to us when he told us that paying off the debt was immoral and we had to cut taxes on the rich? Oh dear, and I thought the GOP was so righteous.
@zoidnight: If only we had gone “after a psycho who attacked us”. If we had found him, tried him, fried him, and walked away, we’d be better respected, and far wealthier than we are now. bin Laden’s goal was to change our society while bankrupting it. With imbecilic support from the White House, he pretty much accomplished his goal.
@coryryan: I’m confused. How would you be able to afford going south for the winter if Romney had been elected? Would a large package of money have shown up in the mail? And maybe, if you didn’t drink so much, you’d have the money to go south.
that the Economics 101 that the ultra conservatives are always trying to teach the Isn’t rest of us?
After all,, big business (like the Dow 30) are constantly borrowing from the shareholders on Wall Street!!
So just what is to stop government from also being so capitalistic?
And yes, government at all levels does make a profit, for just one (of many) very important things, it is called the infrastructure of this great country.
Without which those big businesses could not make anything, let alone a profit!!
OK, So WHO THE F put us in Afghanistan, and then WALKED AWAY TO ATTACK IRAQ? Always bitching about what O does, but never putting Shrub"s actions in perspective, i.e. “I don’t think about bin Laden!” That base wouldn’t have been there otherwise. And the Republicans pushed through a bill which cut $ for embassy security! International protocol also calls for the host country to provide MOST of the security. Or would you rather have 200 plus Chinese soldiers guarding THEIR embassy here?
BTW: Papa John’s founder is bitching about Obamacare, but he spent 32 million on his NFL pizza giveaway, pays Peyton Manning to be his spokesperson, has a MEGA_mansion, but can’t stomach the cost of a pizza going up by 25 cents? He’s going to make his money anyway!
“Cage of freedom/That’s our prisonWe’re the jailer and captive combineCage of freedom/Cast in powerAll the trappings of our own designBlind ambition/Steals our reasonWe’re soon behind those invisible barsOn the inside/Looking outsideTo make it safer we double the guardCage of freedom/There’s no escapingWe fabricated a world of our own….”From “Cage of Freedom” by Jon Anderson off of the Metropolis Soundtrack.I didn’t like this cartoon for several reasons. Obama’s caricature seems to accent his race more than most of the editorial cartoons from conservative and liberals alike.I also do not believe Republicans are being caged by words being used by Obama as much as by words being used by Republicans. As long as the Republican party uses language that flies in the face of elementary school science, they will not reach the majorities they need except in the most conservative states. But those republicans who do recognize scientific realities must be respected and their opinions and contributions to legislation given sincere bipartisan consideration. Both parties must set aside social issues for now and really focus on what to do about jobs, the environment, healthcare, education, etc. There are some very good ideas out there. Some folks in this forum have presented ideas upon which a foundation could be laid.We just need to get these ideas in front of our elected officials and demand they focus on legislation. They can still investigate Benghazi and Petraeus and anything else they want, but with over 500 people in the Senate and Congress, there should still be enough folks available to work on the urgent things as well as the merely important.Respectfully,C.
We can only hope that the GOP will use these four years to reflect upon their crimes, and when they are released they will be rehabilitated and ready to perform a useful role in society.
But hey, I’m a liberal so I’m full of dewy-eyed optimism about these things. A less-compassionate sort would insist on capital punishment.

Perhaps being a superpower is not even such a good thing?
Especially, if you consider that every other “Super Power” the world has ever seen ended in total disaster, and then came the “Dark ages”!!

A totally stupid cartoon. We need to work together for the advancement of all who live in the United States of America.
