Ellie, Ellie, Ellie…when will you learn not to set yourself up for judgmental responses. Even I would’ve said something.

It’s true that meeting self-loathing with an insult doesn’t really help, though what would help doesn’t really fit in a strip and seldom happens. This is probably more realistic than most of us make out. Weight isn’t a big deal in my world, but it is in the worlds of many.

    Happy New Year, all!

That’s the way with all women—they start a ‘train of thought’ but if a man(usually the husband) adds a thought as well meaning as is it meant or a joke to lighten the mood, we are all wrong. Is it any wonder, men are ‘tongue-tied’ around women, when whatever we say is the ‘wrong thing to say’, no matter what it was that we said.

Obviously Susan, you are not married. Most married people are like both John and Elly. We all have bad moods, say the wrong thing (often deliberate and knowing we will get yelled at) and still end up in bed making love by the end of the day. As our vows say, “for better and for worse.”.Then there are some who end up in court instead of in bed.

John should’ve told her he loved her as she was. That’s the only right answer. What he said was insensitive but that seems to be his middle name.

They would have to have one if they married you. HAHAHA – see I have a sense of humor. :)

My late husband, always loved me for what I am heavy or thin, his wife and as the comic strip says, “For better or Worse.” And as my dearest husband passed away in my arms, his last words were, “My darling wife I’ll love you ALWAYS.” That was a marriage that worked. It’s called LOVE AND RESPECT ON BOTH SIDES.

Elly is such a Sensitive Suzy. I would scoff at this bad joke if my husband said that. Men like to make jokes and I know that. Elly really needs to lighten up. Sheesh.

As I recall, there was also a future strip where Elly rants and raves about her hair texture, making statements like “AUGH! My hair is frizzy and cannot be worn right!!” This time John is a bit wiser and leave the room without making a remark. Elly roars “I ASKED YOU A QUESTION!!!” It seems John is lose-lose during certain periods of Elly’s life.

I notice too many married people saying mean things to each other and otherwise treating rudely (even some close to me).
