Since its debut in 1979, For Better or For Worse has touched comic strip readers as few cartoons ever do. Cartoonist Lynn Johnston’s eye for detail and her uncanny sense of what real parents and children struggle with daily are a big part of her success. The world has watched the Patterson family grow up in real time, and to many readers, the Pattersons feel like family!
Parents and children alike will relate to the obstacles that the Patterson family faces. Curfews, parent date nights, babysitting, pets and distractions are all hurdles that the Pattersons must overcome in order to enjoy each other as a family. They face the same obstacles that real life families do, which is what makes them so loveable.

Kind of weird for it to be 2013 considering the material still uses a lot of old fashions and technology. Look at the TV they’re watching. Heh.

Good writing – like this – is timeless.

If this is a re-run and April hasn’t been born yet, how come John says it’s 2013?

@Arye Uygur
I think they updated it.

Well, well, Lynn updated the strip.

As I understand it, this new version will not progress in real time. Like in Hi & Lois, the kids will never age.

Is this a new version? I hadn’t heard anything about it! Looks like they just stuck in the “real” date into their reruns. But this is still one of my favorite comics!!

Nothing changes New Year’s Day.

The same to U2.

The “2013” has been photoshopped over the date that was originally published. The font is slightly larger.

either way, love this comic, one of my favorite. Happy New Year to you all, be safe and enjoy. I know that is sometimes hard to do but try.

Still one of my favorite strips, even if they did change the date. My niece would totally do that and I would have too as a kid. :)

as best as I can recall, Lynn didn’t want to do the re-run route, and I’m sure didn’t want things photo-shopped, but the U/GoComics overlords probably own the rights and do whatever they want… so we get little “tweaks”.. still one of the best strips plus we can all play psychic and “see” the future…

Not true. Michael and Lizzie have already aged a couple of years from when the strip re-started in 2010. He’s now going on nine and she’s going on four. When the strip re-started, he was going on seven and she was going on two.
