My wife is American. She emigrated to the UK when we married 11 years ago.
She has adult-onset asthma: her lungs were damaged in a bad bout of influenza. Because of this – and because she’s self-employed – it was impossible for her to afford the Insurance premium required in the States.
Even though she took a night-time job, purely for the Health Insurance. they refused to pay for the full cost of her maintenance drugs or for an operation on her nose which would relieve her breathing problems.
In the UK, she gets all of her drugs for a modest one-off annual payment and she had the operation she needed. The quality of her life has improved immeasurably. She loves her country but would not move back there because it would mean a deterioration in her healthcare.
If I were conserviative, I wouldn’t try to make the argument that 53% is not enough approval for governing. The GOP house did not even get a popular vote majority (they lost by a very slim margin, but they lost; winning only because of gerrymandered districts). Yet they’re going to try to make the case that it’s no taxes or the hostage dies.
McCongame and his tribe have produced well over 250 filibusters to block action in the Senate, it hasn’t been Reid. While I don’t care for Reid (essentially a “blue dog” actually) McConnell is an obstructionist to the point of treason against the Constitution, jus like everyone who signed the “Norquist pledge”, and the should ALL follow Akin out of Congress.
Hey, everyone. A mandate is the one chosen for a particular task. Not an overwhelming majority of voters casting their ballots for one candidate. If 100 votes are cast, the one who receives 51 has the mandate. No different than if 75, or 98 were cast for the candidate. Look it up.
Ima said it best.I support the office of the president. He also doesn’t like Obama. However,, the Presidency deserves support, and I might add- generously, on Ima’s behalf- until it doesn’t.I like the part in “Clear and Present Danger” when Harrison Ford confronts the President, and with utter contempt for the man, addressed the President of the United States. His hate was clear, his respect for the office was absolute. The cartoon expresses a true fear of mine. That McConnell’s goal is to make the democrats two term “controllers” of the Presidency, tho many dems are disappointed Mr. Obama hasn’t done more on behalf of their “issue”. They may wonder how “democrat” he is at times.I was recently accused of being a rethuglican. :D Anyway….I hope Mr. McConnall will give this second term president the same amount of opportunity to put policy to work the Democrats did when they gave him the power to immediately go to war with anyone he felt evidence showed “guilty”. I am giving W. Bush the benefit of the doubt because he “let Rumsfeld retire” so soon after his reelection. He also didn’t pardon Cheney’s friend, Lewis Libby, who betrayed Valerie Plame. I think W. Bush was given bad information, even lies, regarding an issue against which he already had strong prejudices, Saddam Hussein. Dems gave W. Bush a lot of leeway in the war against terrorism, the number one issue of that moment. It is time for Repubs to give President Obama just as much leeway in the war to save our economy, employ our people, and perhaps, save our planet. It really is that big of a deal. I’m not saying the world will end if he doesn’t, or if the next guy doesn’t. But after that, I don’t know what options we’ll be looking at. I kinda feel we should err on the side of caution, people, and respect.Respectfully,C.
I also have grave doubts about ScottPM’s story. In any case, that is not the story we hear from anywhere else in the world. The UK had problems at the start of their implementation, but Kingoswald indicates that it runs very well now. It’s up to you, USA, how much you can be bothered to support the people who want to make it work. Please don’t cherry pick the odd bad story as being conclusive evidence of your point of view, billions of people reckon it’s a good thing.
Wow, you really need to stop watching Fox News. I could go on about how we were ranked at the bottom of third world countries as to our lack of Universal Health Care but to speak of the four dead foreign workers as Obama’s fault and yet never mention 9/11 is the very height of stupidity. Lamestream ignorance "Thus hasn’t happened since 1979 makes my skin crawl. You are pathetic and ignorant of history.

the way the Republicans are going, Obama may be forced by popular acclaim to be a three term President just to finish cleaning up their messes.

Finally a great picture of McConnell. (He should give some tips to Chuck Asay.)

Seems to me that Mitch McConnel’s goal for the GOP hasn’t changed. They just didn’t recognize what it was until now.

mdavis4183, the Republican congress? The congress is split, last I heard the Senate was still in the hands of the Dems.
