@ominusthe republicans WANTED to scare away the log cabin republicans. Look at IMA’s disgraceful comments on this one.
as Conservgov goes, i’ve run a real small business (not like bain) for 27 years, and i’m not crying about obama. I’m relieved. In fact, i’m looking forward to republican intransigents about the fiscal cliff. If we go off, the republicans will be voted out forever more, and we’ll finally get a handle on what a GREAT REPUBLICAN, and supreme commander eisenhower warned us about. the military industrial complex.
HAPPY VETERAN’S DAY TO ALL VETS! MAY THERE COME A DAY WHEN THERE ARE NO VETERANS FROM ANY WARS, when disputes can be settled by sitting down and working out a resolution without sacrificing young men’s lives.
Freedom! Free adults allowed to choose partners freely. To be against marriage equality seems to me to be against personal freedom. I thought Republicans were all about freedom?
as a registered republican, i can tell you that republicans are all about freedom for corporations, freedom for unfettered monopolistic capitalism, freedom to discriminate against minorities, freedom for corporations (corporations are people too), freedom for foreign countries to spend unlimited money buying our representatives (citizens united). HOWEVER when it comes to reproductive freedom, personal freedom for individuals or CONSERVING our environment, well, that’s not really important.
The great irony of this is that Obama’s view of same sex marriage is to let the states decide. The GOP wants a constitutional amendment banning it. So Obama is taking the classic republican stance of states rights and the GOP is taking the ‘big governor making all the decisions’ point of view which they always blame the democrats of doing. Personally, for the record, I’m very glad that Maryland (my home state) and Maine and Washington approved their same sex marriage bills. I’ve always believed in equal rights. It’s so sad that I see the right so frequently opposing them.
Well, no one is being forced to have gay sex. So, maybe mind your own business in your own bedroom and pull your nose out of what others want to do with their lives.
Who are the people “dependent on government handouts”? Only people who have no other way to survive. Everyone else is not depending on government handouts, they are just benefiting from them. And that means 96% of the population at least. Because I take an income tax deduction on my mortgage interest, I pay less in tax than I would if I were renting. In effect, I am taking a handout from my fellow taxpayers to subsidize the house I am slowly buying. Because I take a deduction for the gifts I make to my church, I pay less in taxes than if I did not give. Thus I am taking a handout from my fellow taxpayers. As Romney pointed out, the tax rates could be lower if deductions were eliminated, and the same amount of money would come in. We, as a nation, would just have to stop using our tax code to encourage people to do this, or discourage them from doing that. There is no essential difference between that, and providing a social safety net, which exists to free people from some hazards, and encourage them to say, stay in their homes. But when anybody inveighs against those who “take government handouts” they should not forget to look in the mirror.
Unfortunately they always look in the fun house mirror! Republicans love to TALK about small government, but they REALLY mean government small enough to peek through a peephole!
If it is a civil union, then it should not have to be religious at all!
As long as the church is allowed to make its own marriages and not forced to accept marriage that it does not want to sanctify, then it is fine with me.
The first amendment to the constitution, and its implied separation of church and state is our greatest guarantee of freedom!
If the government can not control what its citizens think and believe, then it can not control its citizens in any other manner either. And I find that to be the most wonderful thing about our own government!!
As of March 29, 2012 I will have been married to the same incredible woman for the last 50 years. And there IS such a thing as true love.
If you do not realize that, then I am truly sorry for you. You are either a very miserable human being, or the true internet troll that some here believe you to be.
I would be happy to wish you a Great Day, but you seem to be to sour and bitter to have one!
Robert Landers, Eryx, et al: Nice going. We celebrated our 55th last September. I just wish my cousin could have done so too, but he died of AIDs back when the government refused to treat the epidemic because “it only affected gays”. The first victim I personally knew was totally straight – from a triple bypass. Progress comes, but far too slowly.
Marriage was traditionally a way for royalty to cement alliances and expand their rule. Then the merchant class started asking the Churches blessing so say could cement business alliances and expand their OWN sphere of influence. The majority of citizens had “Common Law” marriage which still exists today. I believe the state should stop asking religious authorities to sign marriage certificates. Get yoir license, but leave the church out of it.

Are they supposed to be business partners? If so, they should be shown crying.
