In 2012 Obama’s campaign flipped that speech upside down and inside out asking people to rely on the “generosity” of the government wanting people to ask what their country can do for them. To the liberals who do not understand Ramirez’s comic, I pretty much explained it to you using the words of a Democrat.

Obama always gives good speeches. That’s his forte, he’s an excellent political actor.

IMO what the voters have done by reelecting Obama=1. The far from landslide Democrat elections….they gained only 2 Senate seats to keep the majority, but could not gain the majority in the House….and the far from landslide of Obama’s win….will be used to join with Obama’s MSM to browbeat the elected GOP to “compromise” in supporting the Democrat plans to keep raising the debt limit and to slash the Defense Dept. budget but keep adding social and domestic spending, while threatening the GOP to rubberstamp TAX HIKES on income taxes in the Robin Hood plot to make the “rich” much, much more “poor”….-3. Obamacare new taxes will hit the nation, and 102 new federal agencies must be created and staffed and funded…with no hope of doing the majority of the public’s wishes to repeal or drastically trim and reform Obamacare. The providers will do what they deem necessary to cope with federal dictatorship new mandates and rules, and many Doctors will adapt operating methods or QUIT. -GLOOM, DESPAIR AND AGONY ON AMERICANS.

Debt limits as a reminder have been raised during Republican administrations too.

If Ramirez is concerned about a “debtor/beggar nation”, he should have been speaking out years ago about “Reaganomics”, with excessive spending while cutting taxes on corporations and the higher income brackets.

You may very well be right. I don’t think so, but I could be wrong. Keep in mind that some people who “sponge off the government” are very well off. Consider that one particular popular name in the news gets a $77,000 tax write-off so he can help pay for the upkeep and the dance lessons for his horse. How many people would we have to kick out of the food stamp program to balance that out? Many of us don’t make $77K per year; this guy gets a write-off for that amount.

Not everyone who benefits from the government’s largesse is a welfare cheat. And most welfare cheats cannot possibly cheat to the tune of $77K per year. This does not include, say, mortgage deductions for how many houses?

And, as a final point, what does it say about a society where there is unlimited money to put into “defense” (offense?), even where it is shown that systems cannot or will not work, even when it is a pet project that even the Pentagon does not want, but whose members will say, “You want money from me to help keep my neighbor healthy? Now THAT’S where I draw the line!”

By the bye, I am a doctor. The health “plan” in place before Obamacare was crumbling under its own weight. It’s funny that people are frightened because “some government beaureaucrat will be deciding who lives and who dies”, but they don’t seem to care a whit about the fact that some insurance bureaucrat, who will share in the savings if he/she decides that this patient isn’t worth saving, will be deciding who lives and who dies.

Obamacare is not the right answer; universal health care is the only correct course. And we don’t need new agencies: Medicare for all will do just fine. But Obamacare is much more likely to keep the masses healthy and capable of producing, rather than becoming ill and becoming a financial drain, than giving the insurance companies carte blanche. I am much more optimistic than I was before Obamacare.

And another point about health care: if we as a society continue to deliberately abuse our health because “nobody can tell ME what to do”, and/or because “I saw on TV that there’s a magic pill to take care of me”, we will be in a world of hurt, no matter what health care plan we do or do not have.

Therefore, I am lifetime taxpayer.(I did not vote for either social security or medicare….at age 65 I tried to stay on private health insurance but the system is rigged and no insurance can cover what basic medicare covers…..I did not vote for the prescription coverage, either.)-I feel sure that I have “paid my share” and am continuing to do so. I will oppose “socialist redistribution” to my last day on earth. I trust God for all things, including my eternity. I hope you trust Jesus for salvation and eternal life, also.

I have two jobs and never took a dime from the government. And I’m a proud liberal. The conservatives’ condescension is one of the reasons they lost, the belief that they’re paying for everyone else’s lifestyle. As it is, my tax rate is way higher than Mitt Romney’s. A bit of soul-searching won’t harm anyone, God bless.

You conservatives shouldn’t give up on America that easily. We’ll do fine. And by the way — unemployment will go down, as it would have under either president. That happens after recessions. It’ll go down faster if the GOP doesn’t block jobs bills. The deficit HAS been going down under Obama, unlike under any GOP president, and Romney’s plan would not have helped the deficit — at least, based on what we know of that plan. The real key is whether the GOP is more afraid of the recession that will come from the fiscal cliff, or of raising taxes on the rich, who are the only friends they have left.

While some in “the markets” do indeed work long hours, abandon their families to make more money, and stress out, they don’t build anything, but “profit”. That is NOT the same as building a car, a company, or anything else that betters a nation, or a society. THAT is what those admittedly “hard working” vulture capitalists do, that harms us more than helps us.

I teach middle school gifted and always play the devils advocate in political discussions. When my liberals say the rich should pay more because they have so much…I always ask if because they study, get honor roll and work hard in school would the be willing to give up their As to students who play video games etc. The answer is always the same…no I worked hard for my grade, they should study too. They are quick to add and so are my conservatives…if someone got sick and needed help to catch up they would be more than willing to tutor them to get them back on track but lazy should not be confused with down on your luck.

Ramirez, are you representing the millionaires? We have public education, it’s not everyman for himself. Stop watching Fox News, and join us in the real world.

@CDowns, I’m sorry if my explanation sounded as if I was disgusted with your post, I was not disgusted, I just thought you must have missed Russell’s wording about the Obama campaign theme that turned JFK’s speech upside down...I appreciate all thoughtful posts….like I Play One on TV’s post that was civil and polite but disagreed with my views. Just as a correction, I don’t think I posted that the 49% “dependent on government help” were “sponges”…..some are but not nearly all. I am so conservative that I am “allergic” to government mandating and deciding what we the people, with our chosen doctors, should decide diagnostics and treatments without intrusion from the Feds. Perhaps a law to keep insurance companies from denying payments for honest and reasonable treatments would be a blessing for patients. God keep us from the European system that is beginning to “off” terminal patients before God decides on “natural death”….and God keep us from medical doctors that would passively comply.
