In the US, we’ve recently been getting reruns of ’Allo ’Allo; somehow, having seen that show makes this strip even funnier.

Keep trying, Columbus. The time-line will be completely messed up if you don’t discover Ohio!

It’s OK ‘cos they’ve reversed the polarity of the neutron flow.

“Sir, the crew is making rumblings of mutiny” “Really?” Yeah, come over here." “Rumble. Rumble. Rumble. Mutiny. Mutiny. Mutiny.” “Okay, you men, stop that rumbling!” (“rumble”) Thank you, Stan Freberg.

This strip has a running gag about a lost German submarine, which first showed up in Queenie’s pool (2008-07-29).

This is so crazy, I like it. All we need is Hornblower showing up to fix things.

This is a repeat from Oct 12, 2008. The biggest benefit is that this one has zoom (unlike the Oct 12, 2008, strip, where zoom is not active). I noticed that Pab has gotten rid of the older strips from his web site so gocomics holds the archives now.

    Another theory…the Germans confused “1942” with “1492”!

i heard that no one really knows what columbus looks like. at least 3 different images. plus, no one really knows what happened on his last voyage and if he survived. maybe there wasn’t a columbus.

…that’s not how i learned it in canada – no matter how many people on the team, there is only one team, so it is singular – the team is fading in the late season…now, i’m certainly not a grammar teacher, but i haven’t heard of this being changed…

And it appears that as recently as the Civil War, newspapers in the U.S. were following the collective plural convention as well. I’ve been reading articles from newspapers during the period; you see constructs such as “our army are” used rather frequently.

Nice navigation there Otto. Take your lessons from the Captain of the Costa Concordia?
