If he would just turn off the damn TV, he’d only have to worry about the occasional mail or internet ad.The scariest thing about any election year October is the negative campaign ads. They’re never pro-candidate anymore, only anti-opponent. It’s pathetic. Even more pathetic are the loosers that kind of campaigning works on.
The “airwaves” are owned by the public, not corporations who RENT them. Reinstate the “Fairness Rule”, and do away with paid commercials on TV and radio. If they want to invest in “cable only channels”, and print, fine.
Obama was not inept at the last debate. Content and substance were pretty much even, depending on your point of view. Romney was given the decision by the forum of public opinion based on a more aggressive debating style.
In the second part of the Daily Show, John Oliver shows us the upside of superpac spending and how it can create a whole new industries providing jobs and a future.
While it is, on the surface, a Daily Show skit, the premise upon which its built could be a sound foundation.
Permanent polling./voting stations offer a computer literate populace an opportunity to respond quickly to issues requiring voter input. From where to put a stop sign, to approving a regulation, all the way to electing someone to higher office, Olver’s farce, like much science fiction, has possible applications in real life. That said… I still think Citizen’s United corrupts the voting process and provides foreign nationals unprecedented influence in our voting system.
Morin, you’ve done it again! I hope you’re as tired of all the “attack ads” that are showing up on television as much as I am! (I think I’m wearing out my “mute” button…. )
all this money spent on this election year by the superpacs, we could have created jobs in manufacturing, invested in our infrastructure, took care of the 911 first responders, helped our veterans of iraq and afganistan get jobs, hired more teachers to teach our kids, gave education grants to our underemployed and unemployed. but, what do we do, we spent it on stupid stuff. election campaigns, ads, cable news contributors, etc…and, they say congress is wasteful. our whole society is wasteful.
The way I heard it was, “We will bury you” (which was taken as a threat) meant, “We will come by after you have self-destructed, and bury the dead for you, and perhaps clean-up the place a bit for the injured and survivors. We’ve been there, we know how.” (20 MILLION dead in WWII!) They gave Hitler the same treatment as they did Napoleon (don’t recall what that one cost, but comparable).

How many jobs could be created with the billions being wasted in this campaign?

Far too early to draw that conclusion. If the next two debates are approximately a draw, the first one will be irrelevant.

Lies get poured on the TV viewer. The money is poured into the media.

If your gonna stop superpacs then you also have to stop unions and trial lawyer groups who give just as much.
