Voice on phone: Most reception sites are booked one to two years in advance. Mom: One to two years?? Voice: Some brides book the room before they're engaged. Mom: What?? Voice: Some book it before they've even met a man. Mom: What?? Voice: The empowered bride of 2004 is not going to let a little thing like "lack of a groom" ruin her big day!!! Mom: What are talking about?! Dad: Wrong number? Mom: Wrong century.
I guess this is where I managed to get lucky when I got married almost 27 yeas ago. My husband-to-be and I were working on a pretty tight budget back then since we were paying for everything ourselves with no financial help from our parents so we couldn’t afford anything fancy and popular that required booking a year or two in advance. What we ended up doing was renting the cafe-teria of the Catholic school I went to from grades 1 – 8. I don’t recall now how much it was but I’m sure it wasn’t a whole lot given that my family were pretty much life-long parishioners ofthe church right across the street from it. It was already slightly decorated for Christmas because it was almost mid-December so all we really had to do was rent the tablecloths and put up lots of streamers and other wedding-related items in order to “dress it up” and make it look a lot nicer than just an ordinary elementary school cafeteria. Nothing fancy but it was good enough for what we needed: a nice little place to have a very special “party” that day for us, our family and a handful of very close friends. What more could we really ask for? Nothing that I can think . . . evenall these years later.
Hi, rgcviper!
lightenup: Hey, Sis! I missed everyone here too! Internet down there was pretty spotty so I just eventually gave up and simply tried to enjoy the time away to see and spend time with my in-laws instead. Everything was going along great until a misstepoff someone’s front porch last Thursday caused a fall resulting in two twisted ankles. Ouch! Thankfully they both seem to be getting a little bit better everyday and I’m getting around much better than I was just a few short days ago. It’s really rough being such a klutz sometimes! ;-)
Hello and Happy Wednesday, fellow Cathy fans. Hope everyone had a really nice day today! ;-)
