Newlyweds Cathy and Irving navigate the treacherous waters of couple-hood. From pampered pets to prying parents, they’ve got a lot to learn! Wedding or not, it’s still all about Cathy - she personifies the young career woman and her typical daily obstacles. Ice cream, panic attacks, stress and love are all in a day’s work. We read, we identify, we laugh. Who could ask for more?
Cathy is the Everywoman. She deals with diets, self-esteem, in-laws, and letting her husband know that she is the boss. Everyone can identify with her shopping, bills, taxes, planning for the future and coping with her husband’s incessant computer golf games. Whether you are a newlywed, single, or have been married for decades, all will enjoy the daily predicaments of Cathy and Irving.

Who calls their mom in the middle of a date? Even Irving is rolling his eyes. Poor guy… (Now take off that bandage!)
Good morning, Cathy crew! It’s finally raining here…yay!
Hope you all have a great Monday!

A small ramble (‘cause I can’t sleep)
Carrying on some more with the shoes/lack there-of conversations from yesterday, one reason I’m barefoot a lot is that, with Charcot-Marie-Tooth, shoes makes my legs weak because they’re too heavy. For EMS runs I wear boots and custom MAFOs (molded ankle-foot orthotics — new-fangled braces) that keep my ankles and legs stable. They fully enclose my calves. You’ve also likely seen the boots we wear as a firefighter. They too are sturdy therefore heavy. Billy said once about me still wearing Nikes I’ve had since college — true, mostly because I hardly wear them.
Re: cold floors that hendelca mentioned, I can’t feel heat or cold in my feet, again because of CMT. Therefore, barefoot 75% or more is quite comfortable. We have wood floors and no carpeting.
As for Billy, he wears sneakers most of the time, including dressy black ones for work, because he’s so mobile. When he’s playing sports, he’s either wearing rollerblades (street hockey) or ice skates, or sneakers for basketball and soccer. (I wear my MAFOs with rollerblades and ice skates. Otherwise my ankles won’t support my weight. I play soccer barefoot, not surprisingly. We keep the soccer field at GU clear of sharp things that I’d never feel but would do damage.)

Happy Monday all. I can’t believe that was 11 years ago! Does anyone know what Cathy is up to now? Thanks!

Aaron, I kinda worry about your insomnia.
Why doncha try a couple of shots of brandy before bed?
Always works for me.

I wish this story arc would end, already.
Don’t you, Aaron, Drs. Billy and KFG, Lightenup, Legaleagle, GsMom, and the rest of the “Cathy”-ologists???

Poor Irving . . . But never mind. Any minute, that hair will start growing back and at least the headwear will fall off.
Be thankful for one small mercy!

The strip ended in October 2010 with Cathy’s announcement that she was pregnant and expecting a girl, which means that today, she’d be chasing a toddler who presumably takes after her mother and grandmother. :)

No worries, Susan I’m fine. Sleep comes harder if I’ve been especially busy at the end of my shift (like this morning) or if I got too much on my mind. Sitting down and writing in my journal helps get rid of the “too much on my mind”. Brandy isn’t an option because I take Zanaflex (a muscle relaxer) at bedtime. Warm milk is often my wonder drug. LMB, as you’d expect, is the best one. He purposefully plants himself in my lap when I’m sitting so I’ll wind down. Man’s best friend truly is.
I managed 5 and a bit more hours, so all is well. Six is my need; eight is too much and I’m useless (no comments from the Peanut Gallery!) :-D
Hi frightenup (since I was distracted this a.m.) and company. Thank you Susan for caring. You’re aces :-)
hi mom! :-)

A puppy, a pusscat – whatever kind of warm friend you’ve got handy! I think it’s the cuddle that matters.

Happy October, all. I’ll comment on the comic and your responses this evening as usual, but wanted to share my new Halloween-inspired name (assuming it went through). Hope you’re all having a Spook-tacular start to the month!
