Accountant: The single most riveting bit of compassion ever published by the I.R.S. is this little passage on the back of this year's 1040 booklet. Look at this: In 1993, the government took in $1,154 billion and spent $1,408 billion, leaving it $254 billion in the hole. It's the government's way of saying, "no matter how badly you've blown it, we've blown it worse! We understand! We've been there! We're right down there in the gutter with you!!!" Cathy: They blew it using my money! Accountant: Go ahead and cry. It helps blur the accompanying pie-chart confessional.
