There is a major winter storm in St. Louis today…tonight…and tomorrow. As I type this, there is a coating of ice being laid down, and tonight we are forecast to receive about one foot of snow. When the snow stops sometime tomorrow, the temperature will go down to about one degree (F).
For the previous twenty-four hours, the people on local television news have been screaming into the camera that we will get 1" to 96" of snow, ice, hail, total eclipse, zombie apocalypse, dogs & cats living together. “Get to the market!” they cry. “Stock up on milk, bread, and eggs before it is too late!”
The reaction to our impending doom* is somewhat different in my house. Marie did rush out last night, but it wasn’t to the market. She went to our local library to pick up all her books on reserve. We may die in this unfolding arctic wasteland and be eaten by our cats, but at least we will be well-read!
