Isn’t this the same president who spoke at the Correspondent’s Dinner, having fun lambasting Trump among others, whilst giving the order to get Bin Laden. Seems the guy can multi-task.

No matter how worn out and stupid the metaphor, right wingnuts will never drop it, like the search for WMDs in Iraq.

I’m sure Mr. Obama takes great solace that Obamabots will defend his every action or inaction, even as his usual supporters start questioning his “optics”.

From the New York Slimes Times:

But the criticism went beyond the usual political opponents. Privately, many Democrats shook their heads at what they considered a judgment error. Ezra Klein, editor in chief of the online news site Vox, who is normally sympathetic to Mr. Obama, wrote on Twitter on Wednesday that “golfing today is in bad taste.” The Daily News published a front-page photograph of a grinning president in a golf cart next to a picture of Mr. Foley’s distraught mother and father under the headline, “Prez tees off as Foley’s parents grieve.”

“As a general rule, I think that he’s right that you can’t be held hostage to the news cycle — the man deserves a bit of downtime,” said Jim Manley, a longtime Democratic strategist. “But in this particular instance, I think a lot of Democrats flinched a little bit.”

The video, Mr. Manley added, “was just so shocking that the idea that he was going to immediately run to the golf course was just a little too much for folks; it was tone-deaf.”

You are one of the few who understood that link. I bet any money in my pocket that the birth certificate that came out a few day earlier also was released to create chatter in the media and to distract them – and AQ – about what was going on.

It isn’t so much that many of us approve of Obama’s actions, or not. But many of us are tired of having our intelligence insulted by this golf thing! Many of the ’toonists of GC have been better in the past at getting their point across, but lately have shown a sudden “writers block” in coming up with an original spoof.

Also, many times in history, political and military leaders feign calmness, or indifference during an impending crisis. ie: After Sarajevo, the Kaiser still went on his annual cruise to Norway, and the Austrian P.M. went to a Spa, to keep up the illusion of peace, all the while cooking up their plans for the assaults on Serbia & Russia. President Lincoln refrained from harsh action for a few months after southern states began seceding and seizing federal property, keeping the channel open with southern unionists. When it became clearer that the Rebs would continue, he drew the line and said enough. Then, Davis ordered the seizure of Fort Sumter.Just because the president is not running around ordering invasions and bombings does not mean he is doing nothing. And don’t forget the morning we all woke up to hear that bin Laden was caught and killed, by a “do-nothing” president who picked up the cold trail and finished the job.

As I have said before, I have my gripes about President Obama. Just because someone defends him for something, just as some of us defend pols from the right, this does not necessarily make one a 100% supporter, an Obamabot.

    A) This is a President who telegraphs his moves all the time: “I will not put boots on the ground”. Whether he would or wouldn’t isn’t the point. He shouldn’t telegraph it.

    B) He should get his Cabinet on the same page. His State Department says this isn’t an American problem; his Secretary of Defense says this is a serious American problem

    C) When even the NY Times starts questioning his “optics”, perhaps it’s time for one of his “advisers” to pull him aside and question his “optics”. This is regardless of whether he has a Plan A, a Plan B, or is simply contemplating what the correct course of action should be.

They just haven’t been uppity about it. That’s what infuriates the rightwingers. It’s all about HOW you do it. “Uppity” is no good.

Well, there’s the key, Jeff old boy — you don’t know many people. There are different ways of handling stress and grief, and yours is not the only way.
    .
The last time someone you loved died and people were blaming you for it — publicly and loudly — how did you handle it? And is that the way you handled it when people blamed you — publicly and loudly — for other deaths over the past six years? Include the times they lied about what had happened and accused you of covering it up.

In no way, shape or form do I support this president (voted for him the first time and realized my mistake the 2nd), but I like your post. Very balanced and honest.
